    We used to fish for them when I was a kid. Nothing fights as good as a snapping turtle on a fishing line. You just got to use a steel leader.

    Once they lock on you gotta kill 'em to get them to let loose. We had a neighborhood kid who lost a toe to one in our local pond. Little bugger about 10 inches across just snapped the toe off while we were all wading in the pond. Kid was screaming all the way to the bank and when he got on shore the turtle gave another bite, the toe came off and the turtle scurried back in the pond.

    We used to do that too Cyl, fun to catch. The guy I went with's grandfather was a commercial fisher - he trapped them. My friend and I would fish for them while he was setting traps.

    How you like to hook that monster while cat fishing? Bet he could bite off a foot with jaws like that.

    Cold, they wont tolerate cold (sic) for long, so this winter he'll die, unless he gets into a storm drain or something. If he does, there's basically no predator that'll screw with one. Dogs wont get near them. Dont think that because it's a turtle it'll be slow either. For about 15 feet it's as fast or faster than a man.

    :lol: good luck to them. When the ducks start disappearing here, the parks department hunts them with 12 gauge shot guns, from the bank of course. Since it can get almost a meter across, going in the water with one is a very very bad idea.

    My Dad fought with one in the creek behind our house when I was real little, Mom said it bit the broomstick in half and Dad just lit out for the bank and we went home. :lol:
