My yard is full of pecan trees. I can pick them up off the ground in bucket fulls.

But there are over 1,000 varieties of the stuff in the U.S. alone.

It should come down a bit considering.

And are pecans and walnuts the same thing?

They need hot, dry summers, so they're a lot more finicky than other nuts. And there's pretty high demand in other parts of the world, but they're only really grown in mass in the US. And they weren't domesticated until the 1880s so they haven't been cultivated for fast, big production as much as other trees.

    Not even close.

I have pecan, pear, peach, apple, scufflings (don't know if that's spelled right, but they sort of look like gold grapes) plum, and just planted some banana trees. There is a wide variety around the home.

Yeah, when I buy the deluxe mixed nuts, they say both varieties are included, but I only ever find one or the other.

They're cheating me of my choice to eat delicious savory nuts.

Pecans come from Hickory tree (southern US), Carya illinoinensis.

Walnuts from Walnut tree, Jughans regia.

Fuck ... I can't believe I took the effort to look this up. :(

I'd be very jealous of you, but jealousy implies I want to deprive you of what you have to substitute as my own. That is the case. :p

Nooo... very diverse and nice little garden. Where is it that you have the climate and space to have such great estate of fruit?

Yes, but it doesn't discount sj's findings of pecan-production.

I live on the edge of where Georgia and Florida meet. It's 90 degrees F outside right now. It sucks though cause we have mosquitos that like to suck our blood.
