smooth. nothing special - summer´s leaving here, which means good news for you...

 

G'day all.

Summer's definately gone here. Windy, rain, lightning and I heard even some hail around the country. Great. This always happens when I've got some time off. I'm free the next 2 weeks, but I was expecting a little bit better weather.

 

Winter is departing as well which is a sort of good and bad thing. The days are actually getting significantly warmer here in Melbourne, and well spring really is a while away. On that we have had another very very dry winter and dams are already starting to see the pinch. If we get a repeat summer like last season and it starts early then there is trouble to be had.

 

We've had quit a summer here. Started lousy as usual, but we've had two heatwaves (5 days of +25 Celcius, of which at least two above 30) in a row, plus the month Juli held a record for being the warmest month in I-don't-know-how-many years. It had quite a morbid side, because the number of deaths among the elderly increased significantly...

But as quick as it came, it seems to have gone now.

What sort of temperatures are common in Melbourne for summers?

 

Well generally its holds on teh low 30s for a standard summer. Last summer was crazy as it held high 30s for weeks on end i remember New Years Eve quite distinctly as i was working on the boats as that hit 44C and got to only a low of 28 till 4 in the morning, the hottest day in Melbourne history. I remember as everyone out in the street parties was too stuffed to do anything. People were just sitting about sweating it out. People here are more ready for it, despite the heat, deaths were nothing major as attributed to heat.

 

Damn, sounds like a real nightmare, especially if New Years Eve is something like over here. Let's say there'd be a lot of liquids to sweat out...
