I'm not its biggest fan, I'm pleased that all 5 (including Johnson) will be able to say they captained the club, they're all great players and worthy of the role. Personally, I would have gone just with JB, but the inner sanctum of the club seemed to credit the new leadership structure to our improvement last season, so who knows.

Quite seriously, you wouldn't find a tougher game than our football.
No padding, full body contact, and none of the rubbish diving we sadly see in football (soccer).

 

Five? Fucking hell.

I truly don't believe any club has five players worthy of captaincy.

It should be Brown's job, and that's it.

Well it's 4 now, given that Johnson retired. Lappin won't be around for much longer so if JB has another big season then who knows, he might get the job on his own in a year or two. Matthews doesn't seem to rate the captaincy, more the leadership group itself. Lynch and Voss co-captained for a few years before the former stepped down.

 

In end if a players a leader and motivator on & off the pitch then wearing a black band on his arm won't make much differance. Unless of course they have a direct tactical influence as in Cricket & to lesser degree Rugby.

 

Irish canned it, due to what they perceived as roughhouse Australian tactics. I'll admit some of what happened was out of order. It's possibly going to get restored, but with bigger penalties for offences that count during regular season and not the games between the two countries.

 

I'll take it that was an understement then... lol

I can't find the video, but the Aussie co-captain did a coathanger on some Irish guy in the 2005 series, he played for my club side. There was a massive outroar, he was banned for 5 games (effectively 3 years worth of series so that ended his international career) and there were some other incidents as well.

 

We play our game hard, and the Irish are generally slight, and a bit soft, so we beat the bejesus out of them.

It's the Australian way.

 

Matty Scarlett smashed one of their guys a few years ago too, got banned from the series for two years (i think).
