Ferrets wouldn't be my first choice. I'd see him more surrounded by cockroaches. Or, in terms of pets, maybe an equally fat and constantly farting dog of some kind.

 

cockroaches are more of a city thing, i could see a muddy malnourished dog running through the house chasing a child while the mother is screaming at them
