    took all of about 10 minutes. simple dupe layer, desaturate, erase tool, flatten image, all done. :)

    Hair is definitely an achilles heel at times, especially if its really wispy and not well defined. I usually just lower the opacity of the clone tool and dab at it like an airbrush...sometimes as low as 5-10% opacity setting, tool radius of 4-8 pixels (soft edge of 4 pixels).

    Personally, one of the toughest ones for me lately was the bride in the woods a few posts ago. The transparency of her wedding gown showed the greenery in the forest, but when doing the B&W conversion I didn't want the dress to appear B&W, yet didn't want the green showing through.
