To be fair you could probably have gotten into a lot of trouble before this, it's like the way one town on the welsh border still has a law on the books that says you can shoot a welshman after dark with a longbow. Legal on paper but i suspect it wouldn't stand up in court if pushed. Allmost every country has a few legal loopholes like that, The law says one thing and unless somthing major happens it won;t be challanged, but if it ever gets far enough to make it to court it would probably result in the courts taking action to work around an obviously broken piece of legislation with a pointed note to the goverment that they need to update the written law ASAP.

 

There's a lot of weird ass laws like that here in the US too. It kind of makes you wonder what people were thinking (and drinking) back in the day.

 

It's continuing a derail, but in our Pacific NW town there is a law forbidding the riding of two-hump camels within city limits. One-hump camels are okay, though.

Apparently, this law dates back to the days of the Gold Rush and a fast-talking sharpie who was able to eliminate the competition for Arabian beasts of burden by paying off the right politician.

BTW- camels, regardless of the number of humps, do not fare well in the snowy winters of the Yukon, which was where they were headed.

 

Let's not derail this thread any further (my fault). It might be fun to start a Weird Laws thread in the Lounge, where we could further explore the topic.
