Well because many people are celebrities in their country, or they are famous because of who they are married too or daughter of as well. Lol even reality tv show actresses are considered celebrities.

 

Reality TV breeds notoriety - not celebrity. Being "famous for being famous" is not the same as earning fame. I do not place Kim Kardashian (and other's of her ilk) on the same level as Nicole Kidman and others who have worked hard to be successful in a competitive artistic profession. Snookie is only 'famous' because people laugh at her for being herself.

I wouldn't even consider celebrity offspring in the same level of those who have worked to achieve fame. Ozzy Osborne's kids have become celebrities because they worked at it whereas Bristol Palin didn't. All she has done in life is to live on her mom's apron stings and get knocked up during the presidential election. Notorious as that was, it's still not the same as achiving fame.

 

As much as I agree with your sentiment, all you're really doing here is splitting hairs. Celebrity is fame, and fame is celebrity, regardless of how it's achieved. Snookie and Tom Hanks are both celebrities, like it or not.

I think you're taking "celebrity" as such to be an accomplishment, and you (rightfully) don't want to give it to the lesser celebs of reality TV and other D-list activities, but it really isn't. It's nothing more than a measure how well-known you are among the general public. It isn't a reflection of the quality of your work, only a reflection of how well-marketed you are. And really, nobody who's famous in Hollywood has any right to be as pampered and "famous" as they are. I find the worship of George Clooney and Brad Pitt just as ridiculous as that of snookie and J-Wowww. "Fame" in that regard is absolutely absurd and totally unwarranted.

And the Osbourne offspring are only famous because they were on the show. All Jack and Kelly did to get famous was have fights like all siblings do. The difference is that their parents were Sharon and Ozzy freaking Osbourne. I've had similar tiffs with brothers, and nobody's offering me a record deal.
