The only thing those sales numbers are useful for is highlighting the power of having a constant Disney-backed tv presence w/Hannah Montana + catering to kids vs doing it w/out Disney & the kids. Doesn't say much, if anything, about the impact of Miley's current image or music on sales.

    Miley is not doing anything Different that Madonna did 20-25 years ago. Madonna did the crotch grabbing, all kinds of simulated sex and sleezy stuff on her concert tours. She made news back then about it caused a uproar then died down once she got older. Miley's just the newer version of this(Although I think she's a lot prettier and a better figure then Madonna did back then).

    It just a shock show to make news and therefore more money and bigger record sales

    I don't think what you've said conflicts with what I've said. In fact I agree entirely with your comments. I was discussing mostly the psychology behind what makes that mass appeal possible.

    If people did have taste in music the commercial pop music industry would not exist. The business is established upon the understanding that they can manufacture peoples tastes in art the way they can manufacture any other product or service.
