I'm not sure why that is. If you go to Quebec City, you would swear you were in France. You can't find a trace of English there anywhere :?

 

See, when you start to add VM's to the many friends you have who don't have any VM's (which just isn't phun at all), it's actually quite tiring. :?

 

Are you trying to leave a VM for everyone on your friends list?

 

The French aren't big fans of Quebec either. I remember being in Canada when the air traffic controllers in Paris had to admit `yes, we do speak in English, 'cos it's the international language` The Government shrugged in public and let it slide away.

Some Quebecois minister visiting Paris made a public stink about how awful it was, embarassing the shit out of the French.

Yet I presume Quebec City Airport (I'm just guessing they have one) use English as well.

 

Not everyone. I noticed that a lot of them don't have a single message at all. This is a community, so a little hello from me might make them feel more at home.

I have had more than one run-in with people in Quebec that would thumb their noses at us because we were in their province and we dared speak English to them

I always found it hilarious that whenever we would encounter Canadians from other provinces while we were in Quebec, they went out of their way to make sure we knew they weren't from Quebec

 

It meant a lot to me especially since I was a just a newbie

 

It's an old travelling joke; you could always spot a Kiwi or a Canadian from a mile away because they'd have big Kiwi or Canadian flags sewn onto their bags so no-one would ever mistake them for Australians or Americans. :wink:

When I went to Europe, if we encountered people that didn't seem to like Americans all that much, we would tell them we were Canadian. No one hates Canada

Another joke about Dubya (I was in the US for his Inauguration (I mangled that)) was that within a few weeks of taking office he'd managed to piss off EVERYONE, inlcuding the Israelis and the Palestinians (which takes effort), the Russians, the EU, the UN, Britain and Canada (which really, really takes effort) :wink:
