    Just found this..

How to view PSD's as Thumbnails:

    Download This

    a) Copy psicon.dll to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Shell if this folder doesn't exist create it.
    b) Run Adobe.reg
    c) You now can view PSD files in thumbnail view within explorer.

Only seems to work on XP or Vista32 though and not Vista64-bit

If you just follow the steps it's realy easy.
The stroke paths are the hardest part I think, I did them but they didn't look cool, so I switched them for some curvy brushes.

You might need to delete thumbnail cache

    Fuck sake sid

You on Vista or Xp, for vista go to disc cleanup and tick the thumbnails one it will clear out all the thumbnail previews then redo them all again.

Just save 'em as .tif file (no compression).
It's the photography industries standard and all layers are protected.

OK, never thought that I would have an issue with this. Any help would be appreciated.

OK, let's say that I downloads some files that I wanted to post that are very large:

    5250 x 7000 and 39mpx - about 6mb+

What is the best way to get them to a 3mb max file size without losing the quality of the image?

When I use save as in PSD and selct the low to medium setting I have to choose 1 or 0 to get it to size but all quality is lost. I tried save for web also and lost all quality...

I should know this... :stupid: (all by myself - arrow should point at me)

    Not stupid ... most don't have a clue concerning quality/pixel dimensions/resolution.
I'd resize the image in PS (keeping proportions) with Bicubic sharper.
I did one that was 2MB and resized it to about 50% using Bicubic Sharper and quality 10 ... it gave a 1MB image.

    [IMG] [IMG]

When you compare them you'll notice that the resized actually looks sharper and gives a feel of better quality.
Just to say that not always bigger is better.

Thanks TCF. I usually download the smaller size to reduce the risk of messing with quality. But thought I would step up and play with the larger ones.

If I am understanding you correctly the only way to do this to keep the 3mb limit on imagevenue is to actually reduce the size of the image. Am I wrong in stating that I should just download the smaller size, 4000 x 3000, and save myself some work if I am only going to post them?

If I resize the image to 3750 x 5000 and use the Bicubic Sharper when I save I can only use the quaity of 5 to be below 3mb (originally 6.17mb). So I am losing some of the quality anyway...

In looking at your samples I see the difference it can make in the reduction and that quality does look better.

Thanks again for your help TCF.

Another important thing to know when resizing is that PS uses algorithms.
Algorithms do a nice job but can get confused when they have to reduce with odd percentages or pixels. In most cases they leave pixel artifacts.
Say you have an image of 2003x1000 and wanted to reduce to 50% you'd be better off to trim away those 3 pixels width to 2000x1000.

Algoritms also work at their best when they have to handle even percentages.
When you want a sig of 450x150 but start out with some larger source pics, try and work in dimensions like 900x300 or 1800x900.
They reduce without real conflicts when asking 50%, 100% although 25% and 75% is also acceptable.
Reducing with 33,8% or other odd numbers will leave artifacts, although sometimes you need a keen eye to see it all.

If you want a real professional software, look for Genuine Fractals PrintPro which is widely used in the industry for resizing before printing photos.

You can download both and then decide after resizing to 3MB at a fair quality (10 to 12) which looks best.
I'd never resize below quality 10 just to keep the image bigger.
I'd rather resize the pixel dimensions to a smaller size image. 4000x3000 to 2000x1500
The lower quality you choose, the more information in the pixels on color and brightness is deleted by the algoritms.
Especially brightness can make dramatic changes since the human eye is more perceptive to brightness than to color.
Sometimes copying the image in another layer and blending (overlay or soft light) with reduced opacity will bring back some brightness/contrast.
Of course you can also apply a new adjustment layer (curves, levels etc...).

Here's the one I reduced in size but now blended a copy with softlight (opacity 100%) [IMG] only added 100kb so still under 1MB.
