it's crazy how different names are easier to work with. i think the problem i had with yours is that for a sig like this i wanted quite a 'sexy' looking font, so you can't use all capitals, then if you use all lower case the text looks a bit top heavy with the 2 g's hanging down. plus it's a short name so it's difficult to balance it nicely over the picture

 

and why the fuck didn't i start using masks earlier?! all this time i've never bothered with them, then the last month or so i started to use them, so much easier!

 

That's exactly the problem I always have!
To deal with it I always end up either with all caps, or doing what you did and having one capital 'G' and one lowercase.

One thing I've noticed about your username is that it's pretty fucking perfect for sigs.
It's short enough to do in a simple way, but long enough to not become difficult or unbalanced.

Haha, I felt the same way when I FINALLY found out how to use them!

It was like "so you mean I don't have to painstakingly fill this text in with my brush tool!?"

I use at least 2 masks to light every block of text I do, one for the midtone, one for dark and one for the light.

 

the main advantage i've found is for doin stuff like that blake sig, in the past i'd cut something out cleanly with the selection tool, which is fine until i realise a faded background would look better than a clean cut, so i'd have to get the original image back, and rescale it and position it, then start again. as opposed to just 'brushing' it back in!

i imagine shit like that's the reason adobe developed the idea! "imagine if you get rid of stuff, but not really get rid of it! just hide it! then get it back if you want it!"

 

i like this thread already god knows why it didn't catch on last time. we've already spent more time discussing methods and problems than we have in all the time this sig has sat redundant!

There's probably still SO much shit in PS that I still don't know how to use and could probably make my sig making a lot easier.

 

and we can spam as much as we like! within reason

it'll be good for just posting little discussions about maybe a cool little trick you devised while making a sig or a wallpaper, or something you saw in a tutorial

It's definitely something that'll help keep the sig threads less cluttered.
