DEBATE Thoughts on Deepfakes?

I am curious to know what you guys think about Deepfakes. If you don't know what deepfakes are, a user on reddit created an algorithm to quickly replace faces in video and it is now being used to create porn from celebrities by marrying their face to a pornstar's head. For example here is a small clip of one that someone made using Cara Delevigne's face on Nancy A from W4B......



What do you think?

 

I think they're great when the fake works and you can't see the obvious join (because you can still tell sometimes), but that may be because I saw really good Gal Gadot and Emilia Clarke fakes recently that used it.

 

I suppose it is a logical trickle-down of once-sophisticated-and-costly CGI digitization, now (or soon) available to anyone. Celeb fakery will reach a new plateau of realism, much better than the crude (but still appreciated) GIFs.

The ones I have seen recently of Emma Watson and Katy Perry are so real that my first thought was that they must be porn actresses who looked very similar to the celebs. The seamless merging of the sex action of the body with the gestures of the faces is amazing.

Might be great for masturbating to, a dream celebrity doing whatever the fuck you want, but it'll be hell for "fake news."

Anyone who thinks we have an issue with discerning the facts of reality now, just fucking wait. We're right around the corner from the next major scandal involving of this type of technique and technology. It's fun and all being able to watch the chick from Game of Thrones getting fucked by some guy but a different matter when politics are be manipulated with this. Eventually even civilians will be targeted for blackmail or even just embarrassing trolling.

I dislike any fake it may be good, but its still a fake. So personally i don't care much for them.

 

Lets face it, it's the closet we'll get to seeing most of their alleged cunts........ but nice to imagine......

 

It's not really accurate. The faces do't really look like the celebrities. Even the heavily touted gal gadot one was not good. It needs to improve a lot before I'm able to jerk off to it.

I kind of feel they are the work of the devil and I would feel cheated if I used them as a masterbaitery aid unawares.They could be used to blackmail Teresa May into funding the NHS though,so every cloud and all that.

In about 20 years there won't be "actors" anymore... it will all be computer driven. And ditto to the comment about fake news.... this shit already exists with audio, and the video will become widespread as well. The good news is, it should hopefully go the route of webpage advertisements - which is that nobody clicks on jack shit anymore. Once all the fake stuff is everywhere, it will push us back to needing traditional news and journalism. Propaganda is nothing new.

Also in 20 years, most of the current actors will become the next generation of politicians, so it's all good.

 

I learned a bit more from the reddit deepfakes page under the wiki tab (but realize that I am on the illiterate end of computer acumen, and forgive me if I got it wrong). The software first is "trained" on the topography and parameters of the celeb's face, using many images from multiples angles. Then, with a lot of tweaking, it will map the celeb face onto the porn actress's (or amateur's) face and body, and it will make the celeb's face follow/match the expressions of the porn face in a natural way.

Before I read about it, I saw one of Kristen Bell (not the one above), and I was thinking "where in hell did they get TV/movie clips of KB making such extensive and sustained sexual ecstasy expressions?" Thus, it was her face, but her expressions were synthesized.

The overview said that some parts of the process could take hours.

On the reddit page, people are posting discussions about the ethics and misuse of the technology. I would assume that this type of video clip can be eventually be determined via digital forensics as fake.

Update: Someone on another site, more knowledgeable than I am, said as many as 2000+ pics of the celeb face are needed in the training phase (!). Then your computer may crunch the data continuously for hours before the clip is created (!).

 

I would have to say some of these work better than some examples I had already seen. As a 'faker' for over 15 years it's quite amazing the direction things are moving into.

Without doubt this technique works better with a porn star with similar features/head shape because they are only using the face so it has to 'fit' and on some you can see where it slips slightly or the edge is visible.

 

I didn't know this was a thing. There's a lot of potential!

 

BBC Click had an episode in early 2017 where the main host spoke to people who used similar tech to make Obama and Trump videos/audio and asked about the ethics of it, even then.
