Search problems

Sometime when i use the search function i get no results. Even when i am searching for threads that contain popular people. I can type in Ali Larter and only get 13 results, i can type in Natalie Portman and get no results at all. Is there a problem with it, does this happen to anyone else??

 

not sure what's going on for you but when i type natalie portman i get 100 results

 

Can you do a paste screenshoot just before you hit search and post it here, will see if there's anything unusual about the search.

The three letter search "ali" will only work for those threads that were made AFTER cayne changed search parameters. All three letter words prior to this will not show up on a search.

Another "trick".....don't type "Natalie Portman" in the search box, but type "Natalie+Portman". The search fuction still will only work well with the threads that actually placed the name in the message body of the thread. If the only time they type the name is in the title, the search will not always find it. You may have to type the name in "" before it will work.

example, instead of typing : Natalie ....... type ....... "Natalie"

Jamms, what you can also do is an advanced search and limit your search solely to a certain forum. For example, I want to check if the Lindsay Lohan pics I've found have been posted, if I search off her name it brings up shitheaps of threads from all forums, if I limit it just to the celeb forum on the word lohan, it will limit the amount of topics that come up and I can easily find if the thread I'm posting is already here or not.

 

it doesn't work with either a normal or advanced search

 

for the "body" - text: works of course only when you choose the "search entire post"-option at advanced search. (will also find all posts where the one/model/celeb you´re searching for is only mentioned)

(caution: "Jenna+Jameson" may find almost all JohnnyChicago-posts...)

there´s also an option to use asterix (*) that could be enabled in vbulletin. someone´s just got to activate it.

assumed that all contributors are following PHUN´s guidelines, here especially proper titeling of threads, an advanced search for the name only "in titles" will work absolutely fine, regardless of forum or name. sometimes it may be an issue of spelling - there may be some who are used to spell Natalie as Nathalie, for example. just use the surname.
