  2. Our gif only content threads have a rule where all thumbs must be posted as a static thumbnail that does not play. Currently imagebam made a change where they no longer produce static thumbs. Therefore, please do not use imagebam, or any host, that provides live playing gifs in those specific threads. If you see your gif playing once you post, try to use a smaller thumbnail and if that does not work use a different approved host.

    Hello..I just joined not too long ago. one question.

    How do you guys deal with the lurker problem on the board?

    You know..people who NEVER share but take everything killing downloads fast.

    If you use RapidShare (RS), or other free hosting similar to RS, such as GigaShare, there is no limit to how many people can download a file. There are just a few limitations, such as being able to only upload up to 50 MB per one file, and only being about to download up tp 50 MB every hour. With this being said, there isn't any kind of lurking problem if you use RS, so you can post these links freely (just don't give the link to delete the file).

    Other file-sharing hosts, such as You Send It (YSI), have download limitations. Only about 25 people can download the file, and it stays availible for only about 1 week, but you are allowed to upload huge files up to 1 GB, where as you can't host them on RS (or don't want to split the file into tons of archives). The good thing about this is you can control and select who you want to give the link to. The only drawback of this (and a current problem) is that anyone who recieves the link can distribute it to whomever they please, and "killing" the download due to the download limitation.

    So basically when it comes down to lurkers, they are only limited to the generosity of the members who upload. If the member is benevolent and generous, they might choose to upload through RS, allowing all lurkers to download. But, if the member decides to upload a high quality and massivly sized file, they might choose to upload it through YSI and only contributing members (members that have uploaded multiple files in the past) have the opportunity to ask for the link and get one.
