Hotlinked Images

I personaly much prefer hotlinked images when viewing a thread with a lot of movies in it and feel the allowed hotlinked hosts in the Sexy Videos section needs to be reviewed. There is only one allowed, imagesocket, that lets you post porn images and that has a maximum sixe of 125kb. The only hotlinked host i have experience with is pics-hosting.com, I am sure other users can suggest others, I have been using them since March and not had any problem with it. Now I'm not suggesting pics-hosting.com for thumbnails as i believe they are god awful for that.

Please stick to the current list of approved image hosts, regardless of what you may think or like, you must stay within the guidelines and options we have established here.

 

Thanks for the warm welcome Cold As Ice. I don't intend to stray from the current list Perfect4ths I was just saying that phun.org could have more than one hotlinked host that allows nudity/porn.

 

I do not have alot of experience with hotlinked hosts, until recently pics-hosting.com was the only one i've used as i said in my first post. I've now used pics-hosting.com and imagesocket.com and I much prefer pics-hosting.com.

Larger File Size upto 3mb:
Now nobody should need 3mb size screen shots but 30% of my screens from mpc are over 125kb imagesocket.com allows, usualy 130-150kb.

Coping hotlink text from multiple image uploads:
pics-hosting.com allows you to select the hotlink text for each individual image where as imagesocket.com gives you every image text alltogether effectively making multiple uploads useless.

Since we are only talking about hotlinks this should not be a problem as there is no need to click the image.

 

Since the discussion is already open, i'm just jumping in:
The only reliable imageshoster for hotlinking (that allows porn!) here is imagesocket. And i think a second one would not be too much, cause imagesocket has this strange traffic-limit, so if your post is too popular, the hotlinked image is gone fast.

I would also suggest pics-hosting: it allows porn and it is very reliable. I never had any picture deleted there. Of course it should be only allowed for hotlinking (with the direct link between img-tags) and not for thumbnails.
If you can alternate in a big thread between these two hosters, the site would load even faster and if one hoster is temporarily down (for whatever reason) at least half of the pics would be displayed.

I know not everybody has a fast internet connection or a 16:9 display, but i have the impresion that big, hotlinked previews are very popular since they prevent you from clicking on each and every thumbnail (and seeing annoying ads there).

I know the mods are doing a good job here and therefor i don't want to be impertinent, but a second pichoster for hotlinking porn should be considered and pics-hosting would be the first on my list.

 

Just wandering if there is any update? Is it being discussed or dismissed?

 

I know a host that allows 3MB uploads for guests, 6MB image uploading for members, and allows holtinking for members, with unlimited viewing bandwidth and no storage restrictions.

 

I'd suggest a few, but I don't want my preferred sites to die.


This same story has re-occurred countless times before, with such sites as photos.cx, freeimagehosting, imagesocket at a time, and many other 'supposedly' popular full-size image hosters that sank shortly thereafter.

The reason: 'the phun factor'.

Phun has too immense of a traffic and unique page view from thousands of members and non-members alike to even consider putting "all of our eggs into one basket" hot-linking site. It effectively puts a stranglehold on whomever owns the website, their bandwidth, and their maintenance costs.

It just doesn't make any sense whatsoever to allow hotlinking in the forums anymore. Other than in General Forum, where a smaller group of member-oriented threads allows for a set and defined place for hotlinked photos, those survive mainly because only a few dozen look at the picture before some regular spamming members post enough to create a new page in the respective threads.

Unlike in the Model, Celebrity and Video forums, where hundreds, more than likely enough, even thousands of different users flood into a new thread each and every day.

Reliable thumbnail hosters with minimal annoying advertisements such as imagevenue, imagehaven, etc. are the preferred method because it is just easier to maintain than the headache of reviewing and closing multiple threads because the "test-hoster" crapped out and now the main body, along with previews, of the thread is gone.

 

We just update our list of approved image hosts, maybe one of those can fill your need.
