Looking forward to the "raunchy sex scene"! Apparently starts on BBC2 week of 11th May

    Transcript of article:

Gillian Anderson has warned that viewers will be shocked by her new X-rated drama - which sees her character hunting a serial killer who tortures his female victims.

Scenes filmed for psychological thriller The Fall are so disquieting that BBC Two will air a warning before each episode of the series, due on screen next month.
Former X-Files actress Gillian admits the harrowing storyline would be particularly frightening for anyone living alone, revealing, "It's pretty shocking."

The five-part series follows police detective Stella Gibson, drafted in to Northern Ireland from London's Met police to catch perverted monster Paul Spector.

Gillian says she was drawn to enigmatic Stella because of her similarities with Prime Suspect detective Jane Tennison, played by Helen Mirren.
The star, best known as The X-Files Dana Scully, says, "I was always a fan of Prime Suspect and had read other attempts at re-creating that and always found them lacking. But there was something about this that felt like it had the depth and complexity - and yet simplicity - of that series. I really liked Stella.
"And I love the way that we don't really get to know who she is or what makes her tick. In good scripts, a character comes off the page and that was certainly the case with this."

Gillian, who researched the role using real police manuals, says the process of making the drama was so all-consuming that she became a bit of a hermit while on location in Belfast. She says: "I'm a bit of a hermit anyway, but I become more of a hermit when I'm working than when I'm not. Even if I have a few days off, I generally just stay in my hotel room.
"That's not keeping in character, it's just keeping my mind on it and working on it."

Gillian did get up-close-and-personal with co-star Ben Peel for a raunchy sex scene between Stella and his character, local policeman James Olsen. But she says the steamy romp, which takes place after lonely Stella summons him to her hotel room, does nothing to lessen the mystery around her character.Show creator Alan Cubitt, who is already working on scripts for a second series, says Stella could become a long-running fixture on British TV.
And Gillian says she would "definitely" like to return for another run.

During the gripping series, the detective is pitted against the killer, played by Jamie Dornan, as he plans the sexually motivated murder of solicitor Sarah Kay.
The narrative follows the two hunters - police officer and murderer - at the same time as it explores the psychology behind Spector's sick fantasies.
The arrogant killer watched over his unknowing victims in the days and weeks before he murders them, even engaging them in conversation.
The first episode sees him creep into the bedroom of tragic Sarah (Laura Donnelly) while she is out, arranging her underwear and leaving a sex toy on the bed. Later, he stalks her in Belfast's Botanic Gardens while out with his eight-year-old daughter.
Gillian says: " He practically reveals himself before the deed, many times over. That's intriguing to watch."
And Jamie, who based his character on notorious US killer Dennis Rader, who murdered ten people in Kansas between 1974 and 1991, says he found it hard to reconcile the devoted family man with his murderous schemes.
He says: "It's not easy to have ligatures round some young actress's mouth, watching her eyes bulge out of her head and to look like you're getting an element of satisfaction from it. It's a very strange place to put your head in for three months.
"There are horrible aspects, but he's amazing character. They're the best scripts I've ever read."

BBC drama boss Ben Stephenson confirmed a warning will be broadcast before the episodes are aired.
He says: "BBC2 is about pushing the boundaries and telling stories in a different way and has done a huge amount of challenging material over the past few years.
"It's a powerful, compelling piece. You feel the actual reality of the situation and get to know the victims, which inevitably makes it more emotionally difficult in places."
