    That may be, but the fact remains that it sold only a fraction of what the first one got... and while getting accolades is nice, it's sales that matter when it comes to $$$

    Her net worth is $16m so even if her next record sells a fraction of the second one she’ll be ok. It’s actually mainly about touring for artists these days where the money is made. Spotify/Apple music take a huge cut in the streams/sales.

    Actually they are comparable... or at least some of them are. For example, according to RIAA, her first album is certified triple platinum for selling over 3.000.000 units while her second is only gold for selling over 500.000 units. You can make similar comparisons for few other countries and in pretty much every case certification of second album will be lower then the first.

    Yeah, and lower sales mean less interest which translate into smaller tours... and Spotify/Apple music numbers are usually included for purpose of certification. Which is why most certificators use "units sold" to determine certification instead of "albums sold" like they did in the past. To go back to RIAA, they define "unit" as (it get a bit more complicated, but it boils down to this):
    - Each permanent digital album or physical album sale count as 1 Unit for certification purposes
    - 10 permanent track downloads from the album count as 1 Unit for certification purposes
    - 1.500 on-demand audio and/or video streams from the album count as 1 Unit for certification purposes
