"The working title is New York Fashion photographer but I cringe when I hear that because it sounds so pretentious. I imagine tre-sheek black leather jeans and a temperamental Diva character scouring about. I saw all that in the 80’s when I assisted Robert Mapplethrop, Helmet Newton, and Bill King and I can tell you that it is not my temperament. I was born in Houston Texas; worked on a fishing boat in Alaska during the university years where I studied graphic arts and photography. I am married with two kids and have a house in Westchester NY.

After living in Milan, Paris, Sydney Australia then back in New York I had accomplished much of what I set out to do in fashion photography. I worked for Australian Vogue, Bazaar Italia, plus 50 other international fashion magazines. When I started in photography my influences were that of the masters, Weston, Steglitz, Adams and Man Ray. So after a decade of doing the fashion work I decided to do some personal work. From the Garden is a tribute to the masters and is inspired by the exotic plants I grow in my garden.

The tools were an 8x10 Plaubel view camera and a hundred-year-old Voightlander Heliar 14 inch lens, this combo combined with Pyro negative developer actually gave me that magical quality that I remembered from vintage prints. I get a great sense of joy when viewing these prints as they represent a culmination of my technical and creative skills. By going back to my roots (pun intended) and exercising my craft with no commercial obligation I have found that it has helped me become a better photographer in both my commercial and personal work."​
