    it's real easy to do.

    open a pic > add alpha > duplicate layer > selective gausian blur @ 5 px > edge (sobel 1.2) invert layer to dodge or addition > reduce opacity till it looks the way you want > new layer from visible > duplicate layer > set to overlay > adjust opacity till it looks best > new from visible again > canvas layer @ 1.25 px> new layer > make a small frame and you're done.

    These were a bit more than that because they're on backgrounds now that are different. I find that getting a background and running it thru the above process before you do the main subject matter makes the subject seem to be in front of the background dimensionally. the canvas layer then draws the whole thing together and gives it consistency (besides softening any harsh edge lines)

    Pretty straight forward really. :cheers:

    gimp 2.8.2. I have cs5 but i never use it.

    shouldnt really matter. theyll both do pretty much the same things I should think. I got used to gimp in linux and now ps just seems so damned convoluted. + i can use ps scripts in gimp but no gimp scripts in ps. that and i could never give up gmic ;)
