    With respect to srhenry - whose efforts, sincerely, are appreciated - I'm quivering at the thought of just what some of the 'elite' artists might be able to do with these Sabine pics. What kaos42000 made of my earlier request has become one of my most coveted pictures.

    I mean just look at this first one - with a little tinkering, she might as well be nude! (I fear this is the closest we'll ever get...)

    Unsharp Mask good for selection:
    - have a masked picture/layer, and select nipple
    - select/change to a different layer (like merged layer)
    - duplicate layer and use invert selection
    - delete selection (get only a nipple)

    If unsharp mask crashing, change Gimp settings (lower memory usage or undo levels).

    This one is an interesting study in contrast (no pun intended), with the original containing some obvious white balance and normalization issues. So, to correct or not?

    Generally you'd want to do that as part of your initial workflow, and perhaps revisit right before your last stage (right before your sharpen, etc. - i.e. 'destructive' editing processes), depending on what you're doing.

    Here's all three without WB/N on the original, and rather mild changes on the workflow/final versions:

    End result is on the whole a bit darker due to WB/N correction. One can always lighten it afterward, but the result is less striking (and can start to look whitewashed, also):
