"Ophelia's Blues" Cover Art Competition

Hi,

For those of you who don't know music is somewhat of a hobby of mine, and on occasion I will post a link to a recording I've made. Surprisingly the response has been nothing but positive and I thank you all for it. Now I was talking to irish-sid and he suggested an idea that really caught my ear, it was to hold something of a competition in the Creative Backyard and get people to make and submit a piece of cover art.

I sent out a private message to all the sig artists I know on here, if I left some of you out I apologize and this is something for anyone and everyone to partake in, so if you're interested feel free to submit an entry! Judging by the response I got already, I can foresee that this would be of interest to at least a few of you guys, therefore that's why I am drawing up this thread.

First off, this is mainly just for fun. I'm not looking to produce these or anything of that sort, if anything I'd print one out and keep it for myself. It's more of just a fun project for the Creative community here.

My intention is for the artwork to follow these guidelines:

• Size requirement of 2 covers (front & back) both 1450x1450 pixels.
• For the artwork to draw inspiration, in some way, from the music.

That's all I'm asking, other than that it's a creative free for all!

If you're wondering why the odd sizing and not a standard jewel case insert? It's because my intention would be to print these out for 7" vinyl singles and not CD's. And if I did choose to make a CD of it, I can always downsize the artwork to make it fit.

I'll set the deadline for entries to be 2 weeks from today, so Wednesday June 24th. And I've yet to decide on a judging system but I am thinking of holding a public poll (much like the SOTW) just to see what the results look like.

Anyways, if you're interested feel free to download the track, listen to it, and work on something, then just send the submission into me via PM.

Listening to it on the headphones as I post this.

Actually, I love it. Has a very old style country-blues feel to it (I could almost imagine Jerry Reed doing vocals to it).

I'll have a few more listens to it to help conjure up an art concept and hopefully put something together that's suitable. :scratchchin:

Great idea for a thread.

 

Just a *very* early and quick cover concept. The background shot is my original - the accoustic guitar is stock.

I had this scene in my head as I was listenin' to the track.

Maybe it'll help generate more ideas.

The song is great btw. Realy chilout, minimalistic. So that made me think of the image.

After some thought I won't be making this much of a "competition" in that sense, just artists trying things out for fun. In the end I'll probably choose one from the bunch, but really it'll just be nice to see all the entries.

Keep stuff coming though, these are awesome.

I had a listen but I can't say that I really listened, anyway when I realized that the music had stopped, This is how I imagined the cover to look! I may be way off but anyway...



come to think about it a guitar would fit perfectly into the picture..

Had a listen........and came up with these.......Song is sad yet......has It Happy moments.....So Ophelia is sad..........and he is happy... I'm not happy with the font.....would leave that up to you.......

 

Four simple variations on the same theme. Haven't much free time this month so it's probably all i can do.

And thanks to all that have contributed to this thread, needless to say I have many great pieces of artwork to choose from, and I think I'll print a copy of each, just to have. Like I said it isn't for an official run of 7"s or CDs..

I didnt spot this till recently. Thought I'd throw a couple in here. The first is fairly basic.



I liked this old truck. Rustic to fit the theme of your music and a more colorful option. I thought placing the antiqued Messer Resonator on the running board would add character.



I wasnt completely satisfied with either text. You may have something you like better.
