Therefore, please do not use imagebam, or any host, that provides live playing gifs in those specific threads.     If you want faded transparence choose png, but for plain transparency gif is also an option.

    Here I have added a blue background to show the level of transparency to the black background behind the ?blue text:

    If the "background" layer is invisible, or has been erased or gradiented, then .png will keep the transparency. It's better than using phun blue for me because I can then use the one sig in multiple place.

    correct, both gif and png are able to save with transparency, jpg can't do that
    gif can't be saved with gradient transparency only png can.

    Some other formats can also do that but these three are the only ones that are fully functional on the www.
