'A No Thanks' or maybe a 'Thank You but No' Button?

Has anybody ever heard of a "No Thanks" Button, or maybe a "Thank You for you efforts anyway, but I am not personally interested" ?

The number of thanks sometimes fails to give an overall idea of how useful, appropriate, or acceptable a post might be.

I wish there was one of those buttons for this post. ;)

Seriously, that is why people leave comments, to either praise your efforts or flame them.

I would like to have the option to unthank someone if you've thanked them by mistake. :2cent:

    What Ron said!

But a fail button would also be nice!

I wouldn't like that. It'll cause too much drama. :)

I agree with every reply above, especially that leaving comments is much preferable. A prime concern is that people would just hit the button instead of replying.....excellent point!
This leads us to another thought, does the 'Thanks' button itself cut down on the number of comments'
More people hit the thanks' than the 'reply' button don't they?

As far as causing too much drama, it was the first thing that came to my mind, but then I figured the drama in the comments would be of much greater significance to most people, the thanks/no thanks might be more like Obama's 'Joe the Plumber', and the 'fail' button could avoid an unsettling comment or 'bad craziness'.

I wouldn't like a 'no thanks button, mainly because it'd most certainly be aused, and people with vendettas against other users would click 'no thanks' on all their posts. And as mods, we don't need to be dealing with that.

I like it the way it is.

There is a No thanks button. It's called "Groan" and it saids "The Following User(s) Says NO Thank You to *Insert Name* For This Un-useful Post"

use the no thanks button at the top right of your screen. ;)

but in all seriousness, what kieks said, it would be abused, imoa. plus, it would probably bring a negatory effect here.

First of all, I do agree that a "No Thanks" button would just be abused.

I like it as it is... Some use the thanks button, some use the thanks button and make a reply, some just reply and others do nothing. It's all their choice.

But I would like to remove a thanks when added at the wrong place...

I agree with Aust. If someone puts effort to post something-rather that it is good or not-it is still an effort and FREE to view. We shouldn't be posting or categorizing negative feedback in that manner.

if we had that then i think it'd be a good idea to have a reason for unthanking box when you unthank.
