A favorite urban exploration haunt of mine - Hamilton's (in)famous Lister Block.

Its a 100-yr-old office mall...long derelict and in extreme disrepair. Over the years neighbourhood vandals and junkies have literally decimated the interior on every floor. Most of the windows are smashed - leaving the interior to the mercy of the elements.

The basement, which houses a swimming pool and jacuzzi - is a nasty Hades of mold and mildew spores that even the heartiest of explorers find difficult to breathe.

  3. Thanks! :p

Love how the water looks all frothy for some reason.
Very nice, a picture with a girl in it that I can get behind.
Damn, that place looks like it was ripped right out of the Silent Hill movie when the darkness screws with everything.

It definitely has a creep factor to it.

The first trip I made there was during the day, so I was able to scope the place out and get a feel for the layout.

A week later I went back at night - solo again - and took my time taking long exposure shots throughout the building. Very eerie.

Excellent shots SK! I too enjoy the interior shots of old buildings, not sure why, maybe I am a bit creepy.. ;)

But what you do with the camera is amazing. Thank you for sharing!

    Kappy looks cool!

I forgot to mention the Pier shots... Incredible is the only word I can think of at the moment. Thanks Again...

    Thanks Austxsoul.

I've been into explorin' and shooting old buildings for about 12 years...I just enjoy seeing and photographing old, neglected places that most people avoid. I love the decayed textures, rust, crumbling brick, peeling paint and unusual lighting conditions that buildings falling apart tend to have.

Nice to hear you enjoy the shots. :)

Here in Austin, TX they constantly tare down the old, and not so old, to make room for more condos and such. It is terrible for me because I can not find things even close to what you get to experience.

Just keep up the good work and sharing with us!

Actually, the same goes here in Niagara region - no sooner do I find a good abandonment...it seems within months it gets torn down.

Often when vandals and kids begin lighting fires and causing vandalism, the property eventually takes notice and decides to demolish the place to avoid an injury liability/lawsuit.

I'm finding I have to travel farther these days to get to places that haven't been wrecked yet.

A dramatic, but otherwise harmless bullrush fire in a dried-up swamp area on the outskirts of town last summer.

The wife and I saw the smoke on the horizon and headed over with the camera to grab a few shots. I liked this one with the silhouette of the firefighter.

After hounding the plant manager of a local steel mill for nearly two years, I finally got permission to photograph the place while work crews were in the middle of demolition.

To date I'm still the only photographer in town that's gotten permission to shoot the place - even local newspaper reporters couldn't get access.

Atlas Metals was once the life-blood of employment for our city...but like so many other industries - they've closed the doors to it forever. Now it sits and waits for the wrecking ball.

I have to say that I'm not into the fetish stuff you do, but I gotta admit that the crystal clarity, lighting and texture of your photography is far superior to what's generally offered in that genre. And the setting of your wharehouse studio - the peeling paint on the walls, the very aged look of it all - adds an element of the macbre in a way. It seems fitting for someone who's tied up head to toe. I find it menacing, and that's not a bad thing. ;)

It also appears that yours is turning into an excellent thread for wallpapers. The hotrods will each make an apparance on my desktop over the next several weeks, especially the front end of that 57 Chevy. Freakin classic. :D

And again, your industrial photography just blows me away. My roommate was looking over my shoulder as I scrolled down the page and she literally gave a little gasp as we encountered the wonderful pics you took of Atlas Metals. We're off to look at the other 3 pages now.

    Thanks again for sharing SK.

    PS: cute kittie. :)
