Don't think I'll ever be a Londoner, I'm a bit of stranger where ever I am.

But glad to be back in my own bed, back to work in the morning.

 

Morning, seems like London had a "bit" of rain while we were away

 

I don't remember my Great Grandad, but it was said he came back from the Boer War unchanged, but the Great War, he came back a changed man.

My Grandad who i remember again never talked about the Second World War, my Grandmother was in London for the whole of the blitz.

There's Aunt's & Uncle's back a few generations that was directly changed by the Second World War and affected them until the day they died.

So those that weren't in combat but on the home front lived with what they saw & what happened to them until the day they died.

It feel like i spend a lot of yesterday crying, we got back just in time to see the Television Premiere of Peter Jackson's film "They Shall Not Grow Old".

I cried eyes out, it really really brings it home.

The LOTR Director has taken archive film from the Great War and restored and colourised it so it comes to life, it's accompanied by the voices of the men they served on the Western Front.

I really can’t stop thinking about it, which is the point, 100 years later they came back to life.
Its their faces too looking back at you, bringing it home that they're not that different from us.

If you can see it, see it! but be warned its very brutal and features scenes of battle and death.

It's strange the things you find out, i had lunch with my Aunt, she's in her 80's and i don't see her that often.
We got talking about the Armistice and she told me about my Great Great Uncle who was in the Great War, he was
on the Western Front, he survived the War unwounded, then in the last days of the War he was gassed.

He made it to the Armistice and eventually made it back to Liverpool with his wife and their baby daughter, who
became my Aunt's Mother, they were starting their new life after surviving the horrors of the whole war.

He was home a week, when he died from the after effects of the gas.

 

As tragic and sad as that story is, the one bright spot, small though it be, is that he made it back home to his wife and child before succumbing to his unseen wounds. That might seem a trifling succor to contemporary sensibilities, but I believe it to have been a blessing to his family, however brief.

 

I never thought I would enjoy reading about anyone else's life as it happens but this is good. Thanks a lot for sharing.

8:49am First in work (just the way i like it) coffee on (the smell of it helps) weird weather in London 13f.

But i read there may be another "Beast from the east" at the end of next week (major snow).

It was my brother's birthday yesterday, got home at 4:30am.

I loved being the first one in to work (during those times when my workplace wasn't my home)... found I could get more done without the distraction of everyone else in the office...

Interesting, it's been 20°-30° below our usual temps for this time of year. It's snowing here right now and that followed an ice storm that left everthing covered in ice...

Banana & diet coke? The cure sounds worse than the disease...

I've found that just drinking sufficient water as one drinks is all that is needed to stave off ill effects the next morning.

Okay, that creeped me out a little bit. Especially when I saw that red "eye" of HAL... I don't trust Alexa or any of those similar devices. It's one of my "old person" idiosyncarsies...

I love the movie though and saw it when it first came out.

Sure... why not crank up the creep factor of Alexa. That should help...

Yeah I'm the same, usually last out too.

The weather has gone really strange, there's Spring growth/buds on trees

Potassium in the Banana replaces what was lost, Caffeine in the Coke gives you a boost.

Most of all loads of water, hence i don't get hangovers, works for me.

Alex/Google Echo are fine & are really useful & 21st Century, set the Privacy levels when you set it up & its fine.

I saw 2001 on the big screen this year for the Anniversary, it really stands up.
