Right. Because pop singers shamelessly exploiting sexuality onstage and having "accidental" wardrobe malfunctions is so uncommon everywhere else on the planet.

Sorry I admit I'm very, very dumb. Could you please explain it to me what you meant? I'm legimitely curious.

 

I was drunk at the time, but, if you've ever watched Brazilian TV (or from Argentina, come to that) then you'd have a real appreciation for how raunchy their pop stars can be. And if you've never seen any of the wonderful entertainment offerings from South America then I strongly recommend you check 'em out. The ability to understand Portuguese or Spanish is not necessary.

 

I don't know this artist, but it looks like she really gives her fans a great show.

 

I see. I'm already pretty familiar with Brazilian TV--since I'm Brazilian myself--and television down here can indeed get pretty raunchy. But I honestly fail to see much difference between ours and international popstars. Just look at singers/rappers like Nicki Minaj, Iggy Azalea, Charli XCX, Rihanna and Katy Perry and what they'll often do onstage and in their music videos, for example.

 

As far as being risque, Nicki, kind of. Iggy, nah. Charli, yes. Rihanna may as well be from your wonderful nation. Katy Perry? Most certainly not risque at all. She only thinks she is. lol

There's a sort of sensual inhibition that underlies Latin culture that isn't present in Euro-American culture. A freeness or something. What the French call je ne sais quoi. It's hard to describe but I know that it's there.

 

Going by videos like Anaconda and her stage and red carpet outfits I'd say Nicki is most definitely "risque". Same goes for Iggy Azalea, and to some extent I'd even make a case for Teenage Dream-era Katy Perry, with all those latex mini-dresses and such. All extremely gratuitous in the way they exploit sexuality, each in their own way. Rihanna may be from a country that's more culturally similar to Brazil than all those other singers but said similarities stop there since everything about her career and public appearances is handled by, and most importantly, marketed by American corporations to American audiences, primarily.

My point is, even though in your opinion those singers may not have what you called "sensual inhibition" that's indeed more prominent in Latin American countries at the end of the day they're all selling sex to make money. It doesn't matter whether or not it's "routine", they're all essentially cut from the same cloth.

 

Yeah, I reckon. Perhaps I'm just jaded. Living in the US for over 50 years I find all of it a bit stale, to be honest. I started watching Spanish language TV because it seemed so refreshing and different. That, and the telenovela actresses, or game show participants, wore thong bikinis at the pool or beach, something seldom seen in American productions, even during the free and sleazy Bill Clinton era. lol

 

Gotcha. To be frank I'd be lying if I said I too didn't really enjoy all those big booties on our TV programming lol
