You should really dislike Jehovah Witnesses. They (used to?) aggressively tell people (Americans) they are going to suffer an eternity of torture for not believing as they do. If Drumpf gets impeached, that means 2018 went Demo in The House (and maybe Senate). If that's the case, Pence would understand that he's on borrowed time and he wouldn't try to do anything that wasn't dictated to him behind closed doors. So I'm not worried about a Pence presidency at this point. The worst case scenario would be that the Reps decided to oust Trump in favor of Pence to do their bidding some time between now and next January. Such a move might placate enough Republicans to allow the status quo to remain after the 2018 elections. In fact, that might be their best move, because everyone knows by this point that Donald Trump is a fucking moron not worth betting your lunch money on.

True, but the numbers will be there. Republican Reps are facing opposition from their own constituents like they've never felt before. People are finally standing up and taking notice... and giving them shit like never before. It's absolutely fucking glorious. And it includes Dem Reps too. Trump is a fucking embarrassment. An embarrassment of comedy riches, true. But that can't last. He can't even form a coherent sentence. How could someone like that lead this nation of ours? Say all you want to about Hilary Clinton, but at the very least she is fucking intelligent. I wouldn't want to get into a debate with her. And if she had been elected, Putin would have been marginalized by this point. Hillary has bigger balls than any Republican on the Hill.

 

Oh and, to get back on point, I feel celebs can defend Islam all they want. Expressing and defending a point of view is one of the many great privileges granted to all Americans in the First Amendment of the US Constitution.

 

All texts you consider literal can be taken as metaphor. Saying that other interpretations aren't possible is silly, language doesn't work that way. Suppose (I am just making up an example) a text literally says "Men shall protect the faces of their women". You can take this literally as

• men will ensure their wives wear veils to hide their faces
• you can take it literally as saying men will protect their wives from being slapped/punched in the face
• you could also take "face" to refer to "losing face", as in men shall protect their wives from being humiliated (by being catcalled, refused service or otherwise treated unequally).

And all these are relatively literal interpretations with wildly different meanings! Now suppose we insert metaphor in this. Maybe being an old book here, what if the word "women" here represented chattel and traded goods of any kind? Maybe it means men shall protect and value their possessions because to do otherwise is to despise them and thus to disrespect the gifts offered by God.

That one trivial sentence now has four different interpretations. I have serious doubts that the Quran can be that clear cut if among Muslims there is still a Sunni/Shia divide, there continue to be arguments about exactly what Mohammed meant or intended etc. If it's all so clear and obvious without room for interpretation why do people go to mosques at all when they can read the Quran with their slamdunk understanding in the privacy of their own home?

If Muslims discuss with each other what passages mean and how to apply them to their lives, why do you feel you know it so much better than the 500 million or whatever actual believers?

One last thing - suppose you're right anyway and there's only one possible meaning to these explicit orders, how many followers of the three Abrahamic religions do you think actually seriously try to follow all the passages in their respective holy books - one per cent? A tenth? A third genuinely try to follow it all? Seventy per cent? I mean this seriously, suggest a ballpark fraction of Abrahamic diehards who actually try to do all the things their books say.

Oh and back to the topic, no religion or race is better, more virtuous, or blessed than another. It's what a person does within that framework that matters. True, some get brainwashed and others get used and abused...unfortunately it's human nature. Historically religion has one purpose...control, and any religion is basically a cult by definition.

 

I think you guys are bit delusional... just because dem operatives are showing up to town halls to "Stir the pot" doesn't equal liberal success...every election since , so far, liberals have lost. Polling is unreliable because the GOP have learned the game and simply don't answer pollsters anymore. Dems are desperate, they keep losing on the local and state level, their anointed one lost to Trump... they are aggressively tryign to paint a narrative that the people are on their side and whole heartedly against the GOP and Trump... and yea, for liberals thats true...problem, is thats not enough to win them elections at the state level..They need more than slogans and rhetoric...the far left stole the dem party and they don't even realize e that their "Progressive" push is why they get the push back and lose

 

I'm not deluding myself...we'll have to wait until 2018 to reap what is being sown now. Most States, counties, and towns will remain the red or blue that they have for decades now. There will be some shifting...from those who think for themselves. On the federal level, changes may be more drastic...
