1- i know it's an individual award but my point is players are playing a team game and there stats are affected by team descisions. like ppl hold it against porcello because he had run support but ignoring the fact that his era was basically the same as verlander and that the al east teams gave similar run support so it wasn't an advantage...
2-84 wins isn't terrible and the rays had a better record than the twins so that further proves my point that the al east was better. and terrible pitching contributes to a bad team and season. strategy goes out the window during a lost season. the same 84 win yanks you called terrible, threw the season but after they started playing their young players made a run and were competiting they were a tougher team to play as opposed to july.

Ya know you can make a lot of good arguments either way. You don't think Verlander wins the Cy Young? OK.

But what I don't think you can support is that the two Tampa Bay writers listed 5 pitchers and Verlander wasn't on either of their lists.

The reason people are holding run support against Porcello is because there are writers who voted for him based on his win total, which is an outdated stat that really doesn't mean anything anymore. I agree it's not fair to hold that against him, but if you're going to credit him for wins, his incredible run support is a fair counterpoint.

I didn't call the Yankees terrible. You brought up the Rays as if they were tough competition, and I just pointed out that they weren't. You have a point about the competition difference in the divisions, I just don't think, in my opinion, that it's that big of a difference to sway voting. But that's just my opinion.

 

Except he doesn't go out there and throw the ball one time every 5 days. He throws it 80-100 times every 5th day. At speeds ranging from 85 to 100 MPH.

And he's quite good at it, and has been for a very long time.
