Plus Sized Amy Schumer not happy being in Plus Sized magazine article

I think the point (and I understand most of you aren't here to consider points, but rather either troll or display your stupidity) she was trying to make is that she's kind of an average size, and that it's kind of a crappy thing to label her as 'plus sized' in a positive light, because it ignores the struggles that actual plus size people have to deal with.

Kind of like when you tell someone, "I have a massive gambling problem and they're gonna cut off my hand," and they reply with, "Oh, I totally know how hard that is. This year, I tried so hard not to be in the super bowl pool but I couldn't control myself."

 

Typical kind of dissmive response when someone sees another person who isn't PC brainwashed and is willing to stand behind a strong statement. *yawn*

I neither know nor care what the technical definition of "plus sized" is when reffering to a woman, but I think I can safely say it means a pc version of fat to most people. Amy may be fat to some and chunky to others, but by no stretch of the imagination is she in the range of what people would call normal/fit/healthy/whatever. She's offended by reality because pretty much everyone is offended by everything now. And that's the problem with the world, everyone cares a little too much about someone else's opinion. I'm sure someone will be offended by my statement and all I have to say is that is fuck you and fuck Amy; deal with it. Stop caring so much and go live your life.

"Weight" is all relative and a bad standard. "Big boned" is not just a South Park joke. For example, in this picture, Gabby Reece was 170 pounds. I suspect nobody has called her "plus sized" or "fat."

 

No one should call Gabby fat and that's why the definition of Plus size doesn't include a weight. It is purely a size. It began because they didn't want to call large models that wear XL size by the standard XL label. As it became mainstream it kind of settled on size 14 and up. Yes, big boned is a joke because all skeletons of people the same height are going to weight relatively the same. If Amy doesn't want to be considered Plus Size all she has to do is put down the fork once in a while but she clearly is close to a size 14 or more.

Let me drop in a quick story here. My sister is a CFO of a big entertainment company and a Wharton MBA grad. She was always heavy, or plump as my mom called her. She always had dirtbags who wanted to fuck fat chicks chasing her. She was always insecure about her weight. On Christmas day 2012, I found her crying at my mom's house, she was being promoted to CFO and was terrified of being the fat girl in the room. This was a 30 year old woman with everything, and she was beautiful, but fat, there was no other word for it.

So I started to work with her on her nutrition and body. I'm just an average everyday person, not a trainer. I worked with her for a year and a half, and she dropped 4 dress sizes, down to a six. She is 5/9, and weighs 125lbs. She is rock solid and climbs, bikes, swims, walks, runs, and does some basic core strength exercises. She is happier than she has ever been, because she fought the one battle she did not know how to fight, the weight battle. She changed her entire eating regimen and basically works out the way a guy works out. She never sets foot in a gym. She doesn't do aerobic classes or yoga.

The moral of the story is she didn't piss and moan about her plight, she dealt with it. Celebrities have the world at their feet and when I see them piss and moan, man or woman, white, black, brown or purple, I say you wanna go back to flipping burgers or delivering pizzas? STFU. Deal with your shit.

For Amy, the double chin, fat rolls, and arm sag is likely why she get labeled plus sized... and rightly so. And plus sized is just a PC term for fat. I'd likely call her chubby because she's not humongous. But she really should get into shape if she wants to drop that label. You watch, within the next couple of months she'll drop the weight and then say "look at me know" and everyone will congratulate her on always being the average size she claimed to be. The problem will be that nobody will acknowledge that this "fat shaming" actually helped motivate her to lose the weight and get healthier. What the PC crowd doesn't understand is that sometimes negative reinforcement actually does work. How many times have you heard a story of someone who was called fat or humiliated because they were fat go on and lose a bunch of weight. It happens all the time. How many times have you heard a person say "the fat acceptance movement motivated me to lose weight"? That never happens and fat acceptance only creates a bunch of unhealthy overweight people.

Sometimes. And my uncle Bob smoked 2 packs a day and lived to 85. But far, far more often cutting people down just perpetuates the self esteem issues that created the behavior in the first place.

 

I hate euphemisms that are designed to mask a problem and instead enable it. Terms like "plus sized" or "(fill in the blank) challenged" or "undocumented workers," etc. Seems to me they cause more problems than they solve, although I understand that people are just trying to be sensitive. What I don't understand is why so many of you feel the need to hurl juvenile insults at this woman. Good lord, you'd think she actually did something wrong.

Sometimes I find the amount of open hatred expressed on this forum to be alarming and I'm getting to the point where I'm not going to tolerate it any longer. Fair fucking warning.

 

I believe this to be because people have become spineless due to being coddled in a society where participation alone makes you special.

I remember once when I was a kid, I got a baseball trophy that was identical to everyone else. It went right in the trash. I only kept ones that meant something like league championship and All-Star trophies. Nowadays, I wonder how many parents have kept their child's ninth place ribbon like those Fockers.

 

And the damage caused by telling people "Don't worry about your size, your fine just as you are" likely causes much more serious issues like heart disease, diabetes, fatty liver, high blood pressure, etc. So an insult got her self esteem got a little bruised. Big deal! Maybe she should put her big girl pants on and either realize she's fine the way she is or do something about her extra lbs.

Bottom line is there is no actual standard or "normal" body weight. That's where "Plus Size" fails as a concept.

Unless every model was the same size (and not dress size, but actual SIZE-SIZE) it's flawed to call somebody on the LARGER end "Plus Size".

Most models range from about 90something to 130 pounds.....how is that "standard" when it's literally a 20 or so pound difference?

So...Every thin model is "standard" and then once you hit "145"ish you're PLUS? And that's the same for ALL larger models? Isn't Ashley Graham like over 200 pounds? Yet she's in the same range as Amy, who is like a buck 70 at the most?

There is no plus. The plus is stupid. Call her fat if you think she's fat. Plus Sized is LITERALLY a made up fucking term that means LITERALLY nothing.

 

Then I suggest you get out more instead of trying to be the moral compass here on every single issue.
