Those are idiots, not feminists. But people do this all the time. When they generally don't like something, they focus on the extreme minority, to justify their way of thinking. Everyone here that has spoken in the side of feminism is aware of those retards, but they understand that it's just the vocal minority.

 

why do all women deserve my respect? Are they all entitled to my respect? Why?

what about men? do you respect every man you meet in your life? if not then what is so special about women that we must respect every single one of them.

I respect my mom because she is my mom. I respect my father because he is my father. I will respect my GF (whenever i get one) because she will be my GF. but why should I respect every woman?

No, I dont think they deserve my respect. And that is my one of the many problems with modern feminists - 3rd wave feminists. They don't make any sense. They are not for equality. they are for special treatment and privileges for the woman. I can and will respect a woman if she deserves it, not because she is a woman, but I can not respect a modern feminist, ever.

 

You should respect every human being unless they give you reason not to.

 

The point is that women deserve the same respect as men, not that every person you happen across in your life, regardless of how you view them personally, deserves instantaneous respect. Respect of individuals is earned (or, if you're one to give people the benefit of the doubt upon first meeting them, lost), but that's not what feminism is about. Feminism is about equal treatment of women by society, in society. It's about equal pay, equal access to education, equal access to health care, equal access to voting rights, equal access to property rights, equal access to the justice system, and equal access to not being treated as an object when walking down the street, or sitting on a bus, or writing on the internet. Feminism is about treating women as if they're actual human beings.

 

Instead of taking a year off, take your bra off!

At no time since public schools existed were girls denied an education in the western world. Before that no one had a right to an education. Children’s education was administered by the parents, the local church, or a privately funded school. So that’s been settled since the mid 1800’s. As for higher education, women have outperformed men since 1982. Well before Ms. Watson was born, so I don’t see how her feminism will help women in education.

Women have always been the primary beneficiaries of healthcare spending so I don’t know where that one came from.

Yes, some men had the vote before women. That privilege was tied to their societal obligation. The suffragettes gained the power of the vote without inheriting the same obligations men had/have as citizens. No woman will ever be punished for failing to respond to hue and cry, nor will a woman be imprisoned or executed for dodging the draft. Their right will always be superior not equal.

Then there is objectification. The biggest red herring in the feminist arsenal and a pretty good joke for a forum like this. Objectification on the street, as per your example, is not objectification but rather sexual attention seeking. Unless you think men are howling like lusty cartoon wolves at mailboxes, rocks, and other such objects they see from the street, the act itself proves they see her as a human capable of giving attention. Being so desperate for sexual attention that you shout at strangers is rude and sad, but it is also harmless.

The problem with Emma Watson’s brand of feminism is that it supposes he is not already for she. He always has been. He has always loved and respected her. He has always wanted to protect her, and that was the problem. Unwanted protection feels very much like oppression. She didn’t want protecting and further never wanted to love , respect, or protect him back. She wanted him to be on her terms. Need proof that she is protected and he is not? Just ask yourself, what part of she was it legal to cut off at birth for his sexual preferences?

Dude, you need to calm down. Perceived attitudes such as yours are why young women, like Watson, are turning to and considering themselves feminists. The Rights and liberties that have been secured are all good and fine but when all women see is anger, frustration, and vitriol directed at them, can you blame them for having a negative view of men?

Emma Watson, all so called third wave feminists in fact, aren't calling for the vote or fair pay, that's been secured and that battle is won, they're calling for a change in attitude and behavior towards women.

The perfect example of street harassment, so called harmless cat calling, shows a clear distinction between public treatment of men and women. The same man that shouts at a woman on the street would never do that to a man. Women are considered easy, weak targets for a display of dominance, a fellow man would be a potential violent confrontation; it's why women experience street harassment while alone but to a none existent degree when with a man.

According to Ms. Watson, a feminist is someone who believes in social, political and economic equality between the genders. That's it.

So if you're going to complain about Ms. Watson's feminism, that's what you're against. If that's what you're against, you're a creep and there's no reason anybody should have any respect for you.

I think a woman choosing of her own free will to go naked in any art form, be it movies or otherwise, is expressing the very point that is the object behind feminism. So having said all that, I would very much like to see Emma in all of her "empowered" glory.

 

That certainly seems to be Miley Cyrus' viewpoint. Maybe Ms. Watson would feel the same, and if so, I'd certainly welcome her acting on the impulse. Maybe not, in which case, she probably shouldn't.
