Good for him, I wish I didn't know they exist either. I've never seen the bloody horde of them on TV as I don't watch TV, I don't buy the kind of magazines they're in, and yet I still seem to know not only that they exist but most of the things they do. The fact that people like this are rich and famous and worshipped by people despite being largely talentless is a great example of exactly what's wrong with Western culture and our species in general :x

Welp, we have obviously reached market saturation, folks! Time to seek out other spoiled, overpaid trainwrecks.

 

This is a non story; he moved out of shot for a few seconds, and then just had a mild rant about the talentless bimbo family. Something a lot of us out here would like to have the chance to do and make the others see what they're foisting upon the rest of us by buying into their brand......

 

This guy deserves a raise.

 

It took a while for me to realize that they have an automatic publicity machine in the form of E! News, also the channel of their show, and both produced by, or in other ways associated with, Ryan Sechrest. For the past 2-3 years (or longer), the nightly E! News will have, each night, not one but several stories about one family member or another. It's clearly the channel promoting its own program, thinly disguised as "news." And to the extent that E! News is a source for other entertainment news outlets, the stories propagate outward from there. They are completely manufactured celebrities, a phenomenon surely addressed by Marshal McLuhan or George Orwell and the like, and as you say, a sign of cultural deterioration.

As everyone is thinking about Kylie now, it will be interesting to see her trajectory. She was 9 when the show started, so she is a true guinea pig for the effect of growing up under the lens, particularly because she did so not because of any talent (singing, acting, etc.) like most other child celebs. I predict that she will be the future trainwreck of the family. What 18 yr old makes worldwide news simply by reaching 18, and has her own house and new Ferarri? At least Kendall has successfully entered the modeling world, which is a "real" career.

End of rant.

PS: I will still look at every risque' picture of them posted anywhere.

Here are a group of ladies known for having no real talent and yet their dad was a lawyer.
Say what you want about the creepy lawyer field but at least they have to go to school and study law.
That has to count for something as opposed to just being known for a huge rear

Chomsky likes to comment on the little known - and never published in his lifetime - preface to Animal Farm, 'The Freedom of The Press'. It can be found online. I recommend it to all. Shit - I think it should be taught in grade school.
The Kardashian's should not be the focus here. They are just a commodity to be sold; a distraction from matters that are evident but never talked about in media. After them it will be someone else. So, it would be a mistake to think a diminishing of their celebrity some how solves the bigger problem.

What i find particularly irritating is that Alba is prancing around Mexico in a bikini all week and the stupid paps are following the Jenner party. Those people need to get their priorities straight.

 

Great comments from both of you. What I find baffling, however, isn't that they're manufactured, relentlessly pushed, and somehow sold to the public, but that their fame and fortune continues to grow despite the fact that most people acknowledge that they're talentless. Why are people interested in them? Why didn't they fade into obscurity just as quickly as they rose from it? Surely it can't purely be because they're (supposedly) 'hot' - there are tens of thousands of hot women and most of them actually do something. Many of them are even genuinely talented...

 

They're part of the cool kid clique in Hollywood. Many teenagers/young adults are obsessed with these individuals because it makes them feel like they're part of the clique.
By following their instagrams, making tumblr posts about these individuals, watching their shows, wearing what they wear, it gives that person a sense they're also in that "cool kid" group.
I would put all of these celebrities in this category...
-Cara Delivigne
-Gigi Hadid
-Taylor Swift
-Jenners
-Baldwin girls
etc..
That's like the Mean Girls group that every teen wants to be a part of...they're all friends in some way, date each others ex's, families are often connected together in some way, and have affluent upbringings. I would love to see this group go away but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

 

Hopefully some new nobodies will come along and replace them, Paris Hilton used to be the same now she barely gets a mention in the media.
