The government can seize your assets simply because they are investigating a crime and don't have to actually have evidence a crime occurred. This has been going on since the early 80's and local governments have been abusing it all over the country.

Friends of mine were driving around 600 miles to buy a race car and had $5k in cash. They were stopped for speeding and the cash was seen by the police. The policeman confiscated the cash and their car and declared they were involved in the drug trade. It took them over a year before the police finally gave them the money back. They never did get the car back and it was sold at a county auction.

None of the other articles that I have see mention seizure of the house , I'm assuming that's a misprint in the original story. Beyond that the guy who is evidently a "person of interest" isn't the owner of the house, it's someone else with the same last name though (maybe it's the stereotypical guy living in his parent's basement?). And there is a second location now as well but it's unclear what connection there is between the POI and the second address.

Huh...I didn't know about the property (land) seizure not involving the DEA. I have heard of local jurisdictions seizing large amounts of cash from people and claiming it as drug money. Last I heard anything over $10,000 was illegal to carry on your person in the US and law enforcement is allowed to confiscate it. Bullshit and legalized theft, IMO.

You can carry any amount on your person. However any cash transaction of 10k or over must be reported to the Feds, that's what got Hastert in trouble, he was trying to take out 3.3 million 10 k at a time. But I have seen where local authorities will seize large amounts of cash and make you jump through hoops to get it back. There is of course also forfeiture of criminal proceeds and assets acquired with those proceeds. Some locales also have other things, such as forfeiture of vehicles used when picking up prostitutes or DUIs.

    Fed asset forfeiture and seizure
    http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-...gs-under-civil-asset-forfeiture-without-charg

Banks report cash transactions FAR smaller than $10k. Anti Money Laundering legislation and the Patriot Act both lowered the limits and if the bank suspects a pattern they should report. I own an investment firm - we refuse to accept any cash from clients because 100% of it is to be reported to the SEC. If a landlord accepts cash for rent and deposits it - they'll report it after a few months.

edit: back in January Obama / Holder announced the Feds would curtail asset seizures. They haven't.

You guys need to stop believing what Fox news tells you. Or was it the shit film that told you the truth about how Bin Laden (the most wanted man since Hitler) was killed then buried at sea without any evidence? The way Seal Team Six is heading they will have no members left still alive to destroy this silly fantasy. If you think the americans wouldn't have killed him on camera you are a fucking moron. If you think they would've tossed his body into water just like that you need to start thinking. Remember President Barry and Bill Clintons wife watching the raid in that famous picture. Remember also they said the camera actually cut out for the length of the raid and murder. So they were watching what exactly? Just another posed manipulation. People still trust these fucks.

If it is him, hopefully he'll get the book thrown at him. The guy who hacked ScarJo got 10 years, and that guy who ran the revenge porn site got 18 years. That seems like an appropriate range.

You can kill somebody (Manslaughter) and do less time than that. My guess is there's no way they'll do the whole bit.
The stars? They'll be fine, may even get a career boost. But the no names who were victimized by scumbag, pencil dick ex's looking to make there lives miserable have my sympathies here. They didn't have 6 figure lawyers who could go after these sites. And, if you saw 'Last Week Tonight', there's apparently not much in the law to protect them.

If he gets the book thrown at him, I hope more leak from the hackers to protest. :salook: He could potentially get more time than someone who drives drunk and kills someone.

I definitely agree he should be put in prison but I think anymore than 10 years is a bit harsh especially considering that rapists and sometimes pedophiles get less time. 10 years is a good number as it is a large enough jail term to convince others not to do this as well.
