Supergirl:Cancel or Renew?

How about a fourth choice of : don't give a flying fuck.

 

Same here. Not that I am entirely uninterested, but the trailer made it clear it's not for me. Also, to buy into a character I need some level of "alluring but not showing" aspect to keep me interested. With the main actress and her porn-like photos, that goes out the window.

About the "leak". They are clearly testing the waters, as with every pilot for a show with a fall debut. Market research (or whatever exactly they call it in the TV sector) like clockwork.

 

Meh...we will see. Wasn't horrible. Cheap effects, some camp, and not canon...whatever that is. She's cute so there is that.

Like?

 

1. Keep her identity a secret, in the pilot, everyone knows who she really is

2. The sister storyline is weak (having Helen Slater and Dean Cain play the parents was a nice touch)

3. The work friend who is also interested in her and helps her pick an outfit needs to change. They cannot be the same character. Plus, she cannot let a potential love interest know her secret, same reason all the other superheros keep it a secret.

4. Jimmy "James" Olson needs to go back to Metropolis

If I watch it again, I might have a few more

 

Jimmy Olsen IS her love interest.. always was in the comics and even the super-girl movie (Jimmy from the Chris Reeve superman flicks was in it)...as far as people knowing her identity.. besides her family... 2 people know... Jimmy and her friend.....the govt group knows but they are obviously going to be her support group.

 

Doesn't matter that he IS her love interest in the comic books, this is a TV show, and they need to keep it open ended.

Yeah, that Gov't group, another stupid add-on, trying to hard to imitate Arrow or Flash with the TEAMS. It's one thing if the head of the group and maybe one other know, but EVERYONE knows, probably even the janitor.

I also don't like the actor choice of Jimmy, nothing to do with his race, he's too buff for the part, and he towers over Supergirl.

 

they kinda are keeping it open ended in a way.. thats what the Friend is for..lol, classic angsty triangle stuff (Clark, chloe, lana from smallville)...
On the show they-the govt- know who superman is as well so it is a conscious plot point.. perhaps it will play into the story.

Agree on the Jimmy choice of actor.. Jimmy olsen is a nerd, always was..that was kind of part of the dynamic, her alter and he being nerdy and awkward. It would have been more appropriate to reverse the casting of Jimmy and her friend...but I think they were tryign to push the whole racial irrelevance thing like Marvel idiotically making Thor a woman int he new comic book run....lol

 

I watched it an really enjoyed it -- it's fun to watch a super-hero "learn" and be a little vulnerable. Melissa is really entertaining in the role and definitely easy on the eyes. Love Calista Flockhart in it as well.

I must add to the chorus, though, who dislike making Jimmy Olsen a hunky man. Maybe I'm reading more into it than I should, but I think it's a definite sign of sexism that the network -- that is trying to pitch Supergirl as female empowerment -- has decided that Supergirl needs a big, strong, muscular, good-looking man to protect her and, I suspect, bed her to show her what's REALLY important to a woman.

Hope I'm wrong about that last part, because it's the only thing that worries me about the pilot.
