the cartoonish airbrushing couldn't have helped. most of the celeb fakers on here could do a better job with photoshop or gimp

Using D list celebrity's who's career had already ended. Now it's a joke to appear. There will never be a magazine like them again, print is dead, a web based magazine could rise up, if they could get a real working celebrity who has never appeared nude before, a Jennifer Garner, Kaley Cuoco, or someone similar

I think the death of print media in general hurt PB a great deal. And it was years before their online content was anywhere near acceptable.

Current celebs are far more likely to do editorial nude spreads in Esquire or a fashion mag like W or Vogue than Playboy these days. There absolutely is a has-been stigma attached to it.

If they want to prevail somewhere down the line, they should go quarterly in print. Maybe bring in an editor from Treats, Purple, or iD for the shoots. And unless they can get a legitimate star to pose, leave the celeb pictorials behind.

I remember when Torrie Wilson and Christy Hemme posed nude for playboy. That blew my mind as a wrestling fan.Back then playboy was amazing because the magazine would actually have famous people nude.I just don't understand why a company that started out with nude pics now just doesn't care anymore. It's a shame.

They jumped the shark when you started suggesting that Gwyneth Paltrow appear in the mag.
Oh yeah, and also on the internet, unlimited availability to free, higher quality pictures of hotter women that show a lot more than Playboy.
Other than that, I think they have a bright future.

Celebrities/famous people no longer see it as a honor posing for Playboy...the only people you expect to see anymore are washed-up c-listers or someone that needs cash. Plus the whole absurd amount of airbrushing has turned off a lot of people. Throughout the years there have been many beautiful actresses that end up posing for Playboy and end up looking generic/unrecognizable because they have so much porn star make-up. Sometimes you feel it's not even worth having an actress pose since they could just find a similar looking model, throw on tons of make-up, and that model could easily pass for the famous person. Playboy relied to much on heavy airbrushing...the famous actresses/models would have been so much hotter in Playboy if they just went for a more natural look.

Another major reason is the advent of artsy fashion magazines like Treats, Purple, Lui, etc.. You'll see more famous models/actresses do pictorials in those magazines because they see it as more "artful" high-brow since it's European or a specialty low circulation US magazine. It's the same thing when an actress decides to go nude in an limited release Indie or European film....these magazines give actresses/models more "street cred" (even more if shot by someone like Testino or similar) and not see as low brow like Playboy.

Lack of bush and fake tits/lips/butts etc.

People under 30 don't know why they were famous so they should have catered to the tastes of those who remember what they meant to male sexual fantasy.

People's tastes have changed, and attitudes. In the 1950's any skin was unusual. It was also considered morally wrong to look at naked women. In the 1960's the pill made sex more acceptable. The 1970's was the era of pushing the envelope. The 80's and 90's, more of the same. The 00's were a time where the internet took off, and the lid was pulled off pandora's box. People now view nudity in a different way. It seems a naked person is meh. I think we have seen so much nudity a magazine like Playboy doesn't excite us anymore. Playboy was always cool because they seemed to have an endless supply of real first rate women. I mean WOMEN, with great big jugs, and real shapes to them. Now we have a parade of flat chested teens, who don't look much like women. But, it's all good. Things change. Playboy had the coolest brand ever. The whole fantasy will never be topped. But, people aren't like that anymore. They are more real, and don't dig that sort of trip like they once did.

    100% it was Hef's ego.

Back when playboy was still relevant they could have secured Heidy Klum and other A-list stars(this was about 10 years ago). But Hef thought of playboy as this godly status symbol, and people should be grateful to pose in it, instead of the other way around. I think Heidy's pricetag at that time was 10 million which he saw as a slap in the face. Had Hef and Playboy invested in cementing their image as an artistic magazine for nudes, they would have easily transition into the online era. I know many men wouldn't feel as awkward having a playboy subscription if it was something more like the Pirelli calender, and probably wives would be okay with it as well. Right now they're caught in some gray area, where it's still sleazy as fuck, but not hardcore enough to secretly pay for. They literally have no identity other than being known for heavy air-brushed models.

Internet is the major factor all those magazines die.
And then the lack of actual celebrities that are willing to pose nude.

I used to subscribe to the internet site but stopped years ago. Some of the girls on the PlayboyPlus section are so reluctant to 'show' anything. Then when you get one that DOES, I find that she's already a porn star! But my favourite bit was the Casting Calls which was brilliant - but that too has ended!
