Why would anyone accept to do this movie? Von Trier hasn't done a good movie in more than ten years and this appears to be the work of progressively mentally unbalanced man who can't disguise his urges anymore.

I dunno, something about non-porn stars doing HC in movies gets me going, more than any straight porn video could. But, as others have said, no one in this movie is very attractive (to me anyway).

Dogville and Melancholia are actually great. I have my doubts about some of his other films, but Von Trier is still an inventive director who translates his point of view in visual compositions, which makes him more interesting than most of his colleagues, even if you take away the provocation.

I haven't seen Nymphomaniac, but it's apparently not really about a nymphomaniac but a woman who believes she's one, and who tries to act as one.

From the compilation and the captures, I still think no name actor was involved in the hardcore scenes.
The blowjob in the train? Prosthetic peen. Otherwise, the nudity is mostly real, but they used body doubles (the hair conveniently hides part of the face or you don't see the face during the two second shot where she gets actually eaten out), good old fashioned inserts (they fooled people in the 70s, so why wouldn't they fool people today?) and some CGI to adjust the face or the top of a body on another body.

And, for the record, 50 Shades of Gray will be rated R. So, no chance of hardcore action or even extensive nudity in this one...

You would watch this if you want to see an actual film.

Dakota is relatively hot compared to the actresses in Nympho. Kind of like the office chick that is an 8 or 9 at the office, but at the club she is a 6.

The explicit nature of the 50 Shades sex scenes should be similar to 9 Songs, but won't be.

If I wanted to watch an actual film I believe I could find something better.

Well, whether it's a good or bad movie is another matter. But based on your comments and others in this thread, there's major confusion about what Nymphomaniac is even about. You guys are way off track.

I think...the directors are way off track!
Blue Is the Warmest Color...is movie?Or lesbian porn who no one would pay attention to it if it wasnt for the 10min lesbian porn it had????
Ooops my bad...its erotic and made in an artistic way that doesn't offend the viewers or the performers...and the movie is not about it,i totally missed the message it wanted to send!

The only difference is..it doens have a porn logo on it!

Oh! God forbid a director would take an artistic approach! The horror! What were they thinking by doing what a director is actually supposed to do. I guess everyone can't be Michael Bay or those genius porn directors. I think you mean YOU wouldn't have paid attention to these movies if it weren't for the sex scenes. Nymphomaniac is not even an erotic film, so you either haven't watched it or just completely missed what it's about.

Antichrist is decent as well. You can argue it's extremely objectionable, but it's a riveting film. If this is anything like that, people are getting up-in-arms about roughly 2% of the screentime. Antichrist, Meloncholia and Nymphomaniac are supposed to be some kind of unofficial trilogy.

First of all, pardon to all of you for my english. Is not quite well but I hope you´ll understand me: I went to movies when Melancholia was released just for Kirsten and for the plot, because I thought would be interesting to watch... At the end the movie for me is awful. Saving Dunst character, some scenes and that´s all. Boring is the word. Maybe I didn´t understand the movie itself like the paintful tree of life, but when I go to watch some movie I demand some entertainment that I didn´t find here. I wasn´t the only one who said that when I watched the movie in theater.

Lars Von Trier will always go his own ways. Either you like it or you dont. I dont mind the ocassional lovemakeing scene in movies i watch but even if it is artistic it doesnt necessarily have to mean that every single scene has to be about love making. You can even establish a characteristic in a character by putting him or her in the situation once by getting the point across. That is if your a good director and you have a good material to work with.

Well, if Lars is so good then why are his most recent movies been getting horrendous reviews from every publication? It's not just the american press, the french critics, the cahiers du cinema and all the serious film critics hate his movies too so I don't know who is he making films for. I think he has jumped the shark. Breaking the Waves is a phenomenal film though.

Well that's just a film maker's choice. Same goes for violent scenes. Some choose to make them extremely graphic. There's nothing wrong in preferring these things to be presented more tamely. I personally wouldn't judge a whole movie on just this one point.

If you want less extreme von Trier check out Melancholia.

    Good reviews:

    http://www.metacritic.com/movie/melancholia

Well acted--Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kiefer Sutherland all are good with some others.

Not super long (2 and a quarter), interesting plot, no egregious violence (Antichrist) or sex (Nymphomaniac) and a great great look at mental illness and its pros/cons.

    Beautifully shot. Gorgeous movie.

And since this is Phun, Dunst full frontal.

Decent gateway into von Trier's newer stuff.

I would also like to see this. I am just curious if there are any additional scenes that provide more explicit nudity that may actually be the actresses themselves. Obviously the hardcore stuff won't actually be them, but I would be happy to see a bit more skin out of Gainsbourg. I know for example that any closeup genital shots weren't her in the original, but maybe there will be a bit more to see here.
