I guess between 12 and 14 I got a little into "hot rods" through model kit assembly, but have never been a car person.....to me they are just a necessity of life and have always leaned towards utility type vehicles such as vans or SUV types. The closest I ever have come to having a standard passenger car is my first car which I bought used and towed to my place.....a 1965 Mustang.....289, 4 barrel, 4 on the floor, convertible. The only reason I bought it was because it was a convertible and I could put the top down, take out the back seat and carry stuff. I moved a frig once with it. I rebuilt the engine in my living room and drove it for two years....I did not like it. Next was a Chevy Vega sports station wagon marked down to $2,800 at the end of year clearance. I bought that in September of 1972. It turned out to be too nice of a car for my life style, so 15 months later I sold it for $2,400 and bought a Honda 550 and a 1962 VW bus. I kept the bus for about 2+ years and the bike until summer of 1978. I had a ball with the bus. It only had the front bench seat and the back was just open. I blew that engine and had just finished at the U of F, so I bought a new Dodge Tradesman B-100 Commercial van....that would have been fall of 1975. I kept that vehicle until fall of 2000. I then bought a 2001 Dodge Durango which I still have and should have for another ten to fifteen years. And there you have my car history.

    Hi again Inuk.

My dad started his career at Cadillac. One day he came home in a Cadillac convertible. The whole neighborhood came by to take a look! (It was a loaner car and he had to give it back.)

From Cadillac, he moved to the GM Headquarters building to begin his negotiating career.

I never want a convertible again.....noisy and after a while, they leak where they connect to the windshield assembly.....drips right in your crotch!

July 16 was the 10th anniversary of his passing, so I've been thinking about him a lot lately.

:|......I lost both my parents 14 years ago in 2000. I find it depressing that almost all of my relatives I grew up with are now gone....one reason why I don't go by any of the old homes, etc. anymore.

Before I bought the Durango, I pondered for some time whether to buy a quad-cab pickup truck, another van, or an SUV. I was tired of driving a full size van all the time and just could not totally embrace buying a pickup truck. I thing a SUV suits me best. I can always tow a trailer if I need to haul a large load of something.

I cannot see having anything else if you have only one vehicle. They are perfect for me and my life style.

I don't know why they got away from the original look of the Durango as I really liked it. I do not care for the look of today's models. Just another reason to keep mine a long time.
