"Mel B has been named as the fourth X Factor judge in the 11th series of the ITV talent show.
The former Spice Girl said she was "so excited" to be coming back and is reported to have signed a deal worth £1 million.
The 39-year-old appeared as a guest judge on the show in 2012."

"Simon Cowell said he was "thrilled" by the appointment.
He said: "I thought she was fantastic as a guest judge a couple of years ago.
"She is feisty, opinionated and, I believe, will be a great mentor."
Mel B has also been on both the American and Australian versions of the programme.
As part of the Spice Girls, Mel B had nine number one singles and 80 million record sales worldwide."

The programme is going no where! The amount of money it generates compared to it's relative low production costs will ensure that. It also continuously delivers impressive ratings. People make the mistake of comparing the programmes ratings against their peak rather than the ratings when it's not on.

As an example of what it delivers. In the US game of thrones averages around 7 million viewers, in the UK with a much smaller population the factor delivers 9.5 million viewers.

last year's final attracted just 8.5 million "viewers" (including the +1 catch up channel)
    - the lowest since it started in 2004

in any event, the figures are only an estimate from 4000 households with a monitoring device
    attached to their tv

personally, i don't know anybody who watches it in it's entirety
a couple of years ago i was in a minority of one!

    i rarely watch it now

The English media have a habit of building things up, knocking them down. The figures don't lie! It's still hugely popular.

The formula for calculating viewing numbers is the same as that for opinion polls etc. There is no conspiracy, it's basic maths. The margin of error is plus or minus 3 percent

no it isn't... the 4000 households aren't asked what programs they like

"Residents and guests in a panel home register their presence in a room containing a television set that is switched on, which is the BARB definition of television viewing. They then deregister when leaving the room."

clearly, you haven't bothered to visit the BARB website to see how these estimated viewing figures
are worked out, so this conversation is pointless....

btw BARB isn't an independent organization -
it's owned by the TV companies themselves

    enough said

I never got the singular use of that word. Just a US thing or elsewhere? Here, its maths and thank god it is.

Shortening the word Mathematics to Math just sounds wrong. I am aware of the debate as to whether mathematics is plural or singular but either way I'll stick to maths.

Dr. Lynne is one sexy red head! Let's get some HQ! :naughty:

Why would you want to add the last letter of the original word onto the abbreviated word? That defeats the purpose of the abbreviation. Not to mention 'Maths' sounds retarded.

Thank you. This concludes another Sennsational Life Lesson.

Haha, yeah... There's only ONE mathematics. Maths... LOL. Usually English linguistics make more sense, but not here.
