I find people squaring up irl pointless and uncomfortable, I didn't realise that is also the case online until now.

But I find the threat of violence either directly or implied a step to far. On trivial matters, using fists to resolve a disagreement generally means your brain isn't up to getting the better of a situation and even if you were to win the physical battle, you'd have lost long ago.

Personally, as a consumer.. how additions to the thread are flagged is less important than actually finding them buried in discussions about how hot or not the subject is. The whole experience would be improved if adds were in the second and subsequent posts. I would not like to be a mod who edited a thread to include HQ adds to then have to return to the thread once someone had counted the pixels and determined they were instead big and blurry.

Out of interest, why do those who posts additions to their own thread not add them to the first post? Always thought that odd....

The arrow indicates additions and we the user can then find them and determine quality. Sometimes you'd think posters had got in their car, drove to the location and took the pictures themselves as opposed to lifting the work of someone else...

They aren't mutually exclusive. Extra content in the first post is an addition.

 

Because that wouldn't bump the thread. Most people wouldn't have any idea that the thread had changed at all. For instance, what if you edited something into to the first post of a thread that hasn't been posted in 3 months? How would anybody find that?

You type a message saying adds to bump the post. Pictures in one place, thread bumped. Or maybe I'm missing something.

 

That's very pleasing on the eye

 

It creates inconsistency on where to look for the new posts. Let's say a thread has been bumped and I use the "go to last post" link to do just that. If the person adding content isn't the OP, then I'd find the new content right there in the post that bumped the thread. If the person instead edited the first post and added a "pics added to first post" update to bump the thread, I'd then have go back to the first post.

It's more consistent and requires less navigation overall to just add to the end as a poster and look at the end as a user.

 

Oh yeah. I'm not even suggesting a change. Just an observation. The adds are rarely the last post because the forum is so conversational. Having said that, there is also an argument for the endless debates on looks, class etc to be discouraged. I've not been here that long but I know who loves or despises which celeb and the various holes members would or would not like to stick it in.

 

It's against the rules...
