Therefore, please do not use imagebam, or any host, that provides live playing gifs in those specific threads. If you see your gif playing once you post, try to use a smaller thumbnail and if that does not work use a different approved host.

I don't think it would really be an issue if the green plus was the same size as the other icons you can put beside a title rather than much bigger than the words next to it.

There are other forums where a mod makes the changes to the title. IMO it should always be a task for the mods. The "adds thread" only makes it easier for the mods here. But if adding "adds" to a thread is too much for a mod then why not forget about the whole thing.

We can change the icon to whatever, that's not an issue. We just haven't because a) the idea seems to be in flux b) nobody has told me which one to upload yet. If we stick with the icons, we'll change it. :)

From your posts I understand that you still don't realize that now with the new settings we, the users, are able to edit our thread titles ourselves. You thought we can only add plus to the title? No. I just succesfully edited my thread that's from the other day with "Adds". The plus is like part of the title, if we can add plus than we can change the title as well. At least so I guess without having access to the forum settings, I might be wrong, but please don't change anything, that's the perfect solution to the problem and mods won't be bothered with updating titles anymore. And I really don't understand why is all that fuss about. The problem is solved for me.

I think if the pictures added to a thread aren't very good then it should say [subtracts] :thinks2::560:

Just didn't think Scribes post was necessary to be honest! That's my last word on the subject...

I'm out! :wavey: (Unless Im brought back into it) ....

There was no "staff meeting", and I'll leave Scribe to make his peace as he sees fit.

Nevertheless, he's perfectly correct in pointing out that there's a standard vBulletin facility whereby one can "subscribe" to any thread, and thereby receive personal prompts when posts are added to it, which itself is in addition to the basic mechanism by which such a thread is also "bumped" back to the top. Then just a click or two would reveal the nature of the added post(s), but it seems that that's too much for some busy folk, which is why the [ADDS] process was implemented as basically a "belt & braces" extra, to indicate that bigger, better or simply more images had indeed been added.

Inadequate mastery of the technical aspects prevented Scribe's well-meaning replacement for the [ADDS] process from getting off to a flying start, and perhaps it's understandable that the resultant uncharitable comments from observers caused him to reflect on how thankless being a Mod/Admin can be, even though you're only trying to help, and how no matter how much one does, some folk always want more! :)

Then again, it could simply have been the fault of that well known trouble-maker, Jack Daniels! ;)

That may well be the case..... Again thanks for clarifying your point in a reasonable manner.

However it is me that is quoted in his rant post... And seeing that Scribe and I have a long history in not getting on I can only assume his rant was aimed at me for some unknown/Known reason.

I use this system on my forum,it works, for the most part mods will add the adds icon, though some users will add their own if they are the OP,in situations where they are not the OP,we have a request the adds thread where they can ask for it to be added.

Most times it isn't needed as the mods rarely miss a thread where adds have been submitted.

    We use this icon. [IMG]

    Sailor Jerry, actually. ;)

Nevertheless, I stand by what I said, BB's outrage not withstanding. I expected nothing less, and would have been disappointed if he had simply said, "OK." Ours is a long standing relationship full of conflict. I find it very engaging, in fact. Which is why he's one of the more intellectually challenging phunners. Regardless, I've heard on too many occasions from all quarters that mods don't/won't level with the members on any number of things. Well I will. Shun me if you like after I've had my say.

That said, and without using the word "we," what I proposed with this thread is a paradigm shift, the point of which is to give Original Posters' the opportunity to take further control of their threads by granting them the ability to edit their thread titles with the same freedom any and all of you have to edit your posts in general. And this includes--in this forum--to add an icon to the thread title that indicates that Adds have been made to the thread.

As has been pointed out previously, sometimes adding one simple word to a long thread title requires rewording the entire title due to restrictions on the number of characters a thread title can contain. The green + icon eliminates that problem. But ultimately what this change means is that thread starters will/can take greater responsibility for what they post, without relying on the help of the moderation staff to take care of a simple task that the members are quite capable of executing on their own. If you are a content poster, you should be able to exert some kind of control over what other content gets posted in your thread. We can delete unwanted content, but you should have some additional measure of say-so over whether or not the additional content is noted at all. As an OP you should have the right to review the additional content first and determine whether or not it qualifies to be posted in your thread. It could be duplicate content. It could be upscaled images parading as HQ content. Or other variables. As it stands, we can edit thread titles on the fly without a care given to whether or not the OP approves of the extra content.

My point here is not to take anything away from the members, but to give them something extra. To further empower their ability to make decisions regarding the content they post and the ability to make informed decisions regarding the content posted in their threads after the fact. Is it staff prerogative to determine the viability of extra content added to any thread? Yes. But we don't need to be the only arbiters. The OP's opinion can be just as important, as it should be, because they are the individuals that make any section on this forum viable and interesting. And it's to that end that this change is being created.

The time to edit a title is 72 hours (last I checked). What about stuff older than this? Since we aren't supposed to contact a mod about 'adds' how does the OP go about changing the title?

How so? Only mods have the ability to do anything about another person's posts.

It's currently set at 1 minute shy of a million minutes, however long that is. Longer than 72 hours, at any rate.
Yes. But by eliminating the Adds thread, we give you the right to determine (under your scrutiny) to first decide whether or not those Adds are warranted. That's where personal responsibility for your threads comes into play.
You seem to have forgotten the "Fuck You J3scribe" rampage you went on that one time, for which I didn't ban you (someone else did, I can't take credit for that).

If members are PMing you about me, well that must mean that they think you and I have some special connection. Odd that, according to what you just said.

And I don't hold grudges. What's the point?

If people are sending angry PM's to each other, should we be calling it PMS?
