No more add "Adds" but there is a new Icon.

That would be up to the OP. The OP could just edit the title to say adds instead of adding the + icon.

The best way to be informed of adds is to:

    1. Subscribe to the thread(s) you are interested in
    2. Check your UserCP when you sign on and manually check the last post(s) of the threads that have been updated
That doesn't guarantee that the new post(s) will have photo adds as opposed to comments, but it's more consistent overall. Consider this scenario:

    1. Person A posts a thread with some pics.
    2. Person B posts a few more pics that they found and "adds" or an icon is added to the title.
    3. You see "adds" and check out the thread. Great.
    4. Now … a week later somebody else comes along and adds pics again. How are you informed of the adds when the title/icon has already been amended?
The adds thing only really works once, then you are back to manually checking the thread anyway. So just skip that and manually check to begin with. And, use thread subscriptions along with the "go to last post" link to make that process a lot easier. It's a simpler and more consistent process for everybody.

How about +1, +2, +3 system? If there are adds done once, +1, twice +2, etc.

The plus sign could be smaller and right next to it could be the number, which would correspond to the number of times the thread was updated with adds.

Or, you could use [Adds 05-24-2014]. But, all are more complicated than we need to make it. For instance, the +1, +2 idea is interesting. But, would you remember whether it was +1 or +2 the last time you visited in order to compare? I sure wouldn't.

And, who's to say you don't also want to keep informed about the non-pic posts? I mean, there could be a brand new Sennsational comment waiting for me.

LOL. And who would want to miss a brand new retort from me?

Personally, I don't even look if pics have been added or not. I just do everything manually and look to see if there is a bump. Then again, this is coming from the perspective of someone who is here as much for the heartwarming personality of the comments as much as any pic I view, as well as my undying love for Spider.

I'm just looking at the 'adds' issue from the outside in, that a little +1, +2 in green seems like a pretty straight forward way to show that things have been updated higher than the original post. But you guys know better than I do. I'm just here to look good and be hilarious.

Similar styles for this idea would be [IMG] or [IMG]. Also there is this different style [IMG], or [IMG].

As for the numbered icons I suppose I could whip up one of these styles with a number in the middle? I still think at the very least the plus should be changed to the one I linked earlier.

I suggest that we revert to the original [ADDS] procedure which everybody is familiar with, and appeared to work satisfactorily enough?
However, I don't want to persuade my colleagues, only to find that in spite of the above comments everybody thinks the "green plus" idea is the best thing since sliced bread!
    Thoughts?

If someone would add pics to a thread i made and would pm me that he added pics, i would just ignore that pm. It would even be a reason to stop posting pics in celebs at all.

That outburst that Scribe posted eluded to "we" So it is natural that us content posters and users of the Celeb forum would think a staff meeting had taken place over it! What is the situation on this? Scribe's post and language was totally un-called for ....

I had no idea it was such a big deal to ask for adds when contributing to the forum!

Thank you for putting you point forward without the need to swear and bad mouth a large part of this forum.

How is adding a plus to titles any different or easier than adding [adds] in titles?

Saying {Adds} in title can be edited to {HQ Adds} if any turn up or if someone is kind enough to put a large post into a zip file in can become {HQ Adds} + Zip.

It is more informative to its users and posters. I would do it myself if I had the tools on my panel but unfortunately only mods have that ability that's why they are asked. :)

hm. that´s a little sad. is the "adds" in the title the only motivation to add a post?

quite a task, "technically". as of now only mods do have the "power" to change titles - it´s a default vbulletin-setting. not completely useless in general, imho.
i´d like to have a chance to enable more people to change their threads, but that would require to create a new "secondary" usergroup with more or less mod-rights and move quite a few contributors (thankfull there´s more than 20 contributors in the celeb-section) to that new usergroup.

sadly one of our "performance"-issues - indexing posts/threads takes too long - and quite often the syncronisation between all involved servers takes too long, too.

hm. in the end there should be no we vs. us here... but i agree, in a part (always wanted to end the "adds"-threads without an alternative, btw.): taking care of the "adds please" - reports takes quite an ammount of time occasionally - and quite often other things are more "important" from an overall perspective.

welll.... considering that we rarely edit thread-titles more than once when adds are posted (Hilary Duff - booty in tights at a gym in West Hollywood 05/23/14 tagged - untagged adds, hq adds, more adds, even more adds) wouldn´t make much sense, imho) there´s basically no real difference in "information" between that "+" and "adds" in a title.

    that´s my personal approach, too.

ps.: i´d love to see so many input here (and also a similar ammount of concern about how to motivate model-forum-contributors, too....)

I don't care about the "adds" being in the title or not being in the title. When i added pics to a thread i almost never ask to put "adds" in the title. The reason not to post anymore in the celeb forum is just because that ugly green plus, it's something i won't ad to a thread i made

I agree with you there should be no You vs Us however when Scribe's makes a inflammatory post like that describing his own point of view has we (ie:us mods) Then there is going to be a divide created sadly. :(

That issue didn't have to do with performance. It was behaving as it should. The problem was that editing the thread icon and having it show from the forumdisplay (list of threads) as opposed to the showthread view (inside thread) is linked to the permissions for editing the thread title. So, if you were within the hour time limit for editing the thread title, your edited icon would show in the forumdisplay as well as showthread. If that time had passed and you can't edit the thread title anymore, you can still make the edit but it will only show inside the thread.

This. Not only do I (personally, not speaking for other mods/admins) not care, It won't affect me anyway. I already ignore the "adds" tag and I won't be one of the mods having to edit thread titles.

Still, it just seems like flawed way of doing it whether we use icons or text and whether it's the staff or OP editing it. We're making it way more complicated than it needs to be.
