Oh, yeah. This will certainly stop Muslim terrorists (Boko Haram) from kidnapping young girl in school (Boko Haram, whose very name in Hausa professes the sinfulness of Western education)

The girls are being married off or even sold for as little as $12 to be wives to Boko Haram militants

In a separate incident on 5 May, at least eight girls were abducted by gunmen in the Warabe and Wala communities in north-eastern Nigeria. There have been similar abductions on a smaller scale, mainly of women and girls, in the last two years.

Also on 5 May, more than 200 people were killed in Gamboru, Ngala, Borno state, when an armed group traveling in two armoured cars opened fire on a market in broad daylight. The attack began around 1:30pm and lasted several hours, and the armed group torched market stalls, vehicles and nearby homes and shops.

Yup, celebs holding signs on Twitter will really help end all the above.

I think it's more about bringing awareness than anything else. I would imagine half the phunners who saw this post had no idea what that sign meant until they searched about it on google or read your post.

Oh wow, so that is what that stuff is about? Yeah, that is terrible, but whaaat. Is this is some new weird trend, that even the First Lady poses with a sign? (saw that on cnn.com yesterday or 2 days ago)
Yeah, awareness. Consider a random guy made aware of the fact that terrible stuff happens. :/

But all that is an old schtick of course.

Assuming half the phunners don't read newspapers or watch the news, now that they know what could they do about the situation?

something bad happens somewhere in a third world country

news-stations / websites / papers don't report it because no one cares and boring stuff is bad for the ratings / number of clicks / sales figures

very slowly the news get to some more well-read people eventually and finally make their way to celebs like Emma Watson

    celebs "raise awareness" about it

news-stations / websites / papers start reporting the news, because celebrities are not boring and are good for the ratings / number of clicks / sales figures

Joe Average starts hearing about it, joins a "this must end"-page on facebook, posts about it, talks about it, etc.

news-stations / websites / papers report that people are very upset about this, because even that is better for the ratings / number of clicks / sales figures than reporting about the next bad thing happening somewhere else

politicians (who may well have heard about this situation a long time ago) start to take notice and say that it's a terrible situation and something must be done about it, because that's what people want to hear

and here comes the important bit: sometimes politicians actually do something that actually does help, and if it weren't for Emma Watson tweeting a pic, that would never have happened

Boko Haram was founded as an indigenous group, turning itself into a Jihadist group in 2009. It proposes that interaction with the Western world is forbidden, and also supports opposition to the Muslim establishment and the government of Nigeria

Violence linked to the Boko Haram insurgency has resulted in an estimated 10,000 deaths:

7 September 2010 Bauchi prison break
    31 December 2010 December 2010 Abuja attack
22 April 2011 Boko Haram frees 14 prisoners during a jailbreak in Yola, Adamawa State
29 May 2011 May 2011 northern Nigeria bombings
16 June 2011 The group claims responsibility for the 2011 Abuja police headquarters bombing
26 June 2011 Bombing attack on a beer garden in Maiduguri, leaving 25 dead and 12 injured
10 July 2011 Bombing at the All Christian Fellowship Church in Suleja, Niger State
    26 August 2011 2011 Abuja bombing
    4 November 2011 2011 Damaturu attacks
    25 December 2011 December 2011 Nigeria bombings
    5–6 January 2012 January 2012 Nigeria attacks
    20 January 2012 January 2012 Kano bombings
28 January 2012 Nigerian army says it killed 11 Boko Haram insurgents
8 February 2012 Boko Haram claims responsibility for a suicide bombing at the army headquarters in Kaduna.
16 February 2012 Another prison break staged in central Nigeria; 119 prisoners are released, one warden killed.
8 March 2012 During a British hostage rescue attempt to free Italian engineer Franco Lamolinara and Briton Christopher McManus, abducted in 2011 by a splinter group Boko Haram, both hostages were killed.
31 May 2012 During a Joint Task Force raid on a Boko Haram den, it was reported that 5 sect members and a German hostage were killed.
3 June 2012 15 church-goers were killed and several injured in a church bombing in Bauchi state. Boku Haram claimed responsibility through spokesperson Abu Qaqa.
17 June 2012 Suicide bombers strike three churches in Kaduna State. At least 50 people were killed.
17 June 2012 130 bodies were found in Plateau State. It is presumed they were killed by Boko Haram members.
18 September 2012 Family of four murdered
18 September 2012 Murder of six at an outdoor party
3 October 2012 Around 25–46 people were massacred in the town of Mubi in Nigeria during a night-time raid.
18 March 2013 2013 Kano Bus bombing: At least 22 killed and 65 injured, when a suicide car bomb exploded in Kano bus station.
7 May 2013 At least 55 killed and 105 inmates freed in coordinated attacks on army barracks, a prison and police post in Bama town.
6 July 2013 Yobe State school shooting: 42 people, mostly students, were killed in a school attack in northeast Nigeria.[98]
29 September 2013 College of Agriculture in Gujba: 40 male students killed.
14 January 2014 At least 31 people killed, over 50 people injured by suicide bombing in Maiduguri, Borno State.
16 February 2014 Izghe massacre: 106 villagers are killed.
25 February 2014 Federal Government College attack: Fury at military over Yobe deaths. At least 29 teenage boys dead at Federal Government College Buni Yadi.
14 April 2014 2014 Chibok kidnapping: Government properties, including the only girls' secondary school, attacked. At least 16 killed or missing, and 234 female students kidnapped.

With this track record for over 5 years, awareness is not the problem - inaction is.

From 2011 through early 2013, the Clinton State Department repeatedly rejected efforts to designate Boko Haram as a terrorist organization, the State Department refused to place Boko Haram on the list of foreign terrorist organizations in 2011, after the group bombed the UN headquarters in Abuja. The refusal came despite the urging of the Justice Department, the FBI, the CIA, and over a dozen Senators and Congressmen.

In May 2012, then-Justice Department official Lisa Monaco (now at the White House) wrote to the State Department to urge Clinton to designate Boko Haram as a terrorist organization. The following month, Gen. Carter Ham, the chief of U.S. Africa Command, said that Boko Haram provided a 'safe haven' for al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and was likely sharing explosives and funds with the group.

The post is partially factual. Our govt/DoD has certain criteria that needs to be met in order to label a group a terrorist group. So just because it walks like a duck, talks, like a duck, sounds like a duck that doesn't mean shit. So even if the US labeled them a terrorist group a decade ago, I highly doubt we would have done anything to prevent the kidnapping in Africa.
Pointing fingers at the right wingers or left is pretty lame and part of the problem of our govt now anyways. Genocide has been happening in Africa forever and we never care.... so just because celebs are "tweeting" about "OUR GIRLS" now people care.
Reminds me of that whole KONY thing last year or whenever the fuck. Give it another week and we won't care like.
