I don't fantasize about any woman because she's a celebrity. Her fame may have brought her to my attention but it's a woman's visual appeal and sexiness that makes the difference. Celebrity doesn't factor into that at all.

 

He watches porn (...I'm assuming...or maybe he likes the community here.) Isn't it somewhat of a contradiction to simultaneous enjoy and berate female sexuality?

I've read the same comments you have but I have not been left with the impression that Lefty11 displayed any contempt against female sexuality as a whole. If calling a woman a slut proves that a man is sexist than the millions of teenagers who regularly call one another faggots, homosexuals, or gay would demonstrate that this country is over run by homophobes. I'm not defending the behavior, I'm merely arguing that in the spur of a heated moment these words are used. All it proves is perhaps a level immaturity or a certain amount of hate, but only hate directed at a specific individual, not against all sexually liberated women. Otherwise, I don't think he would be a member of this website. These are generic terms hardly used exclusively by the hateful. Especially not, of all the potential words he could have used, the word skank. A word that's common place in the vocabulary of middle school children.

Well said. I don't know him one way or another, but I browsed a few of his other comments and I think I'd have to agree with you on the whole. Hell I was just enjoying the argument anyway. Its fun to get into a heated debate sometimes.

 

I think the cult of personality that is part of fame and celebrity provokes a lot of scorn and disdain for the subjects on display. People are jealous and envious of celebrities while at the same time in awe of them, placing them on pedestals and even worshiping them in extreme cases. This mindset is the foundation of many debates, trolling and flaming among our members who frequent the celeb forum. Conversely, that sort of behavior is notably absent from the model forum and it's depictions of erotic imagery, even though the models are quite well known to the viewers. They are not, however, household names. Celebrity is the focal point of the issue. If all the women posted in the celeb forum were anonymous, would we still see the same commentary? I strongly doubt it, because there would be no foundation for it.

 

Even if that were true -- and it's not -- it overlooks something crucial. You don't get to pick what values someone else chooses to model.

If Miley Cyrus were a role model, it wouldn't necessarily follow that she has some responsibility to display the attitudes and beliefs you want her to display. She gets to display her own. If her values say there's nothing wrong with displaying an enthusiasm for easy, uninhibited sex, she gets to model those values.

 

I think you're right. For example, I personally dig Ellen Page and Mandy Moore, because I think of them from their movies, and seeing them nude is really seeing their movie characters nude. Both of them without the celebrity, are pretty average. They are cute, but put side by side with models, they would be pretty sorry. Still, even though Ellen is gay and Mandy is married, keep posting these two, as it's obvious, I'm a victim of media.

 

If there is a child out there who looks up to Miley Cyrus and dreams of one day being a pop star like her, then she's a role model. Once a person attains a certain level of public recognition, that person becomes a role model for someone. There is no conscious decision made on the part of the role model. A father doesn't have to tell his son that he isn't a role model. The son makes that decision. A society that qualifies status as the predominate measure of success will yield children who revere people based only on their reputation, like Miley Cyrus. Here is a woman who is sexually liberated and also "successful." So it should come as no surprise when many thousands of children long to emulate her. Uploading videos on youtube of them singing her songs with a hair brush held up as a microphone.

But you are right about one thing: she has absolutely no responsibility for these children. She does not have to care about them; quite to the contrary, I would be nothing short of astonished if she gave the remotest shit about them. That responsibility rests with the children's parents. Not to restrict their freedom to express their sexuality. But to foster an atmosphere where the children can think critically about what it is that they want out of life free from both the coercion of society and the authority of their parents.

 

This conversation was more compelling when I was drunk.

 

I see there's now a discussion about the female "Justin Bieber" - actually that is what such people is making happy - we should complete ignore that kind of people and they will disappear soon and that would be better for all of us than that kind of people are the most unnessassary people around the world - Amen !

 

First time I've seen those two words used in the same sentence, in a Miley thread nonetheless.
