The Attention Deficit Disorder Thread

My problem is that I haven't been able to develop any kind of empathy for any of the characters. They're all assholes without any redeeming qualities.

That's not true.......you can empathize with Walter......he's just who has been pushed down and crushed by the mundane system and living a mundane life.....and now after he finds out that he's going to die.....he starts to live and pursue his dream.......and Jesse is just a misguided kid......you can see that he doesn't really want to be involved in the deep mobster/gangster stuff......and that he does have some academic talents....but he repeatedly just keeps falling in with the wrong crowd.

True, but he's really a non-factor to this point. He's the voice of reason but there is no reason, or any that he's aware of.

They're both fuckups who never realized their potential until push came to shove. For both of them it's a fish out of water story. They're not doing anything noble, they're acting out of desperation, out of their league. Do you really think these guys would have lasted as long as they have, up against the odds they face? They're both wishy/washy until the storyline demands they succeed. The writers have given them too many passes.
