don't get any coal from my ashes

 

Just got a call confirming my tree removal and trimming for the front yard will happen tomorrow morning as planned....

There will probably be at least three days of work for me address the downed trees and major limbs as the contractor is to only safely drop and place the tree parts on the ground. I need the mulch and fire wood.

 

it's +4C (39F) here right now.. fucking strange.

 

Unfortunately, my wood stove is an insert into a fireplace and it is not as efficient as a true wood stove could/should be, but I had no other options given what my wife would accept regarding aesthetics and what was available several years ago on the market. I get about a cubic foot of coals from four stove clean outs. I can't see wasting it.

 

Hard to believe we are virtually at the same temp. :?

 

question, are you allowed to do that yourself if you know how to do it, or are you obliged to contact som company to do it for you?

 

can't you add some extra air intake to make it burn harder?

No, just a routine check up and cleaning....and hopefully they won't find and future work necessary.

 

No, I can't maybe it could be done, but I am sure the cost would exceed the benefit. Plus I don't have the money for that available now anyway. The real problem is that there is no good ash management capability for the unit and as the ash build up, the air flow is further restricted. The stove has to be cleaned out after about three loads of wood. This is why it just supplements my heating so I can use the gas furnace less and there by save a little money.

I am allowed to do it legally, but I cannot physically do it safely. The tree that needs to come down has trunk rot and may come down on it own...potentially on my house. The tree folks will climb the tree and take it down from the top down, roping down the limbs as they go. This will give me two years worth of wood or more. I have an equal about of tree work in the back yard to do, but want to wait for a few years so the wood will not rot before I can use it. The back yard work mostly involves removal of large limbs that are over 20 feet up in the air. Again, pros need to do the work so my shrubs and other small trees are not smashed. I need to call around and see if I have any relatives/friend that have a log splitter I could borrow for about a week in mid-January. Otherwise, I will have to rent one.

 

I will take one and post it in a few minutes.....after I get some pants on...
