~ Cool Sigs Redux ~ (for babe/chick sigs)

I wouldn't do a tutorial myself because I more or less wing it with experimentation and don't really have a set way way of making them. Helium's much better at animated stuff and could make a far better guide than me.

What I would say is one the biggest things for me is finding the right sort of source clip. I don't really like gif sigs that start and end with totally different frames and images. It just looks jerky on the eye to me so I try to get a clip that goes full circle smoothly (Helium's current one being a good example), or one that looks ok when reversed.

Animation shop is total crap for making gifs but I like the culling frames feature.

speaking of gifs, finally gave after effects a go to try something i'd wanted to do for a long time with layer masks. turned out pretty cool. adding the shadow onto the text was a pain but i'm glad i did it now, gives it a lot more depth. quality has suffered to keep it below 1.5mb, had to half the frame rate to 15 and reduce the dithering which creates a bit of banding between colours.

 

That's the best animated sig I've ever seen. Amazing.

Keeps happening to me. I spend ages scouring the net for decent HD source material, whack it in AE, play around with it but can't get it quite right and end up scrapping it.

Here's a couple of recent failures. The first was an attempt at a cinemagraph style gif but I couldn't get the movement for the girl on the right to look good (check the glitch to the left of her forehead). The second was an attempt to keep the amount of frames down as much as possible (this is great if you can get it right because it allows you to add Photoshop effects such as Topaz for every frame without spending two years doing it). I got it down to 6 but it's just too jerky.




I need to look up some After Effect tutorials but I'm too lazy.

 

A revised version of an old sig I made. I've had quite a few beers tonight and I gotta say, looking at an animated sig under the influence for any amount of time is a bit of a head fuck.:beer:

 

that's actually from the original video, quite handy really, and probably the main reason I picked that clip. takes all the pain of the aforementioned problems out!

Ah. np, man. It just had a cool overall feel to it, but I get the smoking thing.

these 2 today were just quickies. I'm thinking of doing a single post of all the sigs I've done this year. That is, if I can find them all on 4 different computers lol.

I liked the cracked glass effect on the text of this one.
