Lens sizes typically max out about 800mm.Even that size would be hard pressed to shoot at the range they did,so you have to throw on a tele-converter,which give you more range,but also degrades clarity.

That is why all the super long pap photos you see look so grainy.

Like some other people are expressing here, ultimately I have little sympathy for any celebrity "caught out" of their normal "walled castle" - be it accidental nudity, less-than-flattering behaviour on their part, a bum business deal, or anything similar (personal tragedy excluded of course) - and why? Because at all other times when these fortunate few are flying in their private jets, sleeping in their multi-million dollar mansions, groaning about the quality of their 10-course banquet, dismayed their new Ferrari is still a couple of weeks away, wondering which part of the world they will visit next, I promise you they don't give one damn about the average person who frequently struggles to make ends meet, has a poor diet, and gets little to no choice in many of life's challenges due to their meagre income.

So yes, the inherent danger in this particular situation due to poor security/planning should not be ignored, but think for a second before you get too sympathetic - outside of these occasional "slip-ups", do you really think most of these people stop for one second and wonder about why your kids are eating tinned soup tonight or why you have to pull two shifts to pay your humble abode's mortgage?
