That would be a neat trick. I wouldn't put it past an octopus.

Indeed. They can survive out of water and even move around for quite awhile. And because they are mostly gelatinous they can slip through any opening that's only slightly larger than their beak. And they are very intelligent.

 

Crazy, just looked at wikipedia trying to find the name of the type that is extremely venomous, Blue Ringed Octopus by the way, I read that they are the only invertebrate known to use tools, one type made a shelter out of coconut shells.

 

I saw this program about a research aquarium in Seattle. They had this big room full of tanks with all kinds of different sea creatures including an octopus. Every other morning or so when the researchers showed up to start their day they'd discover that over night on of the urchins or anemones or other creatures had gone missing over the night and for a long time they couldn't figure out why or how, so eventually they installed security cameras in the room. One night it caught the octopus slithering up out of it's tank, crawling over to one of the other tanks and climbing in where it proceeded to feed on the other creatures before returning to it's own tank. They were astonished.

 

That's not true - there are plenty of spineless corporate assholes that are known to use those idiotic tools on Capitol Hill all too often.
