it was on a PBS documentary on the catholic power of mid evil times.
they discussed a lot of the things that were considered taboo and not allowed and the odd things that were accepted at that point in history.
they were extremely powerful back then

Interesting....I've never come across the no bathing thing.

 

i also had a very good friend that was in somethign called the Society of Creative Anachronism
they sort of pretend to live in the 1600 ish. so he knew a ton of what life was like back then
we made me some armor, keeping with the times, i used aircraft aluminum that is hard as hell to bend and feather lite
i never did fight, but he did often i would go watch it was fun

winter meant the creek was sort of off limits to nudity
so what do you suppose all those folks did back then

drawing a bath would mean using a lot of water
in a tub. if they even had a tub

i am led to understand most people would simply keep the same cloths on till spring then wash when the weather was warm
it wasnt uncommon to have fleas or worse
so.. yea. no bathing really. not that often.
maybe for nobility or rich but the rest of gods creatures suffered a bit of the body oder.

Well I knew that....but I didn't know it was frowned upon by the Church.

School was fine. Didn't do much in the way of work (reading for class).
How was yours?

 

i was a lot of fun to go hang out there
the way they would chose the king
well simple
he kicked any challengers ass
and then he was king
if you wanted to fight for the thrown
you had to be a very good fighter
fight quite a few battles
win them all
then maybe it would be arranged
as my friend said about the king that ran his group

hes kinda dumb.. i mean he got there by kicking ass... that doesn't make him smart

i think that just about everything at some point or another is frowned upon by the chruch
and in 300 or so years people will look back and say.. can you imagine they frowned on homo's

oh what a joyous time in the church that must have been.

I've heard about those places....it is fun and entertaining...but the people there are slightly too into it.
