It is a natural park located just a bit south of Crystal River, run by the State. It is a natural habitat for manatees. A neat place to visit. The manatees go there especially in the winter as the run is spring fed so the water temperatures are higher than the gulf, which they like.

My grandparents on my mothers side lived on the mainland side of Sarasota Bay from about 1920 until 1969.......spent a lot of time on Siesta Key beach and Lido Beach as a kid......I have not been in either the Ocean or the Gulf in over 30 years.....preferring inland lakes, springs, and rivers.

 

Awww and another thing I have missed out on and that makes me want to go back! I love manatees.

I usually just take a dip to cool down. I can't really swim, despite having grown up at the sea, but I do love being at the beach, in the sun, bury my feet in the hot sand and listen to the waves.

Very few people can spend the entire day at the beaches here and not get hurt by the sun.....When I was young and going with a beach bunny.....we went to Daytona Beach most every weekend....I had to constantly apply the strongest sun screen that was available then to keep from being a krispy critter AND I was working as a life guard at that time at a local swimming pool... I tan, but Florida beach sun is brutal!

 

When we were there (November), the temperatures were probably mild for Florida but pretty much like our middle of the summer.

 

Also: you were a life guard?

 

You were here at just about the best time.....our summer are very hot. April and May can be nice also.

I gotta go now, feed the dogs, etc. It have been most pleasurable talking with you, Yay!

Yep....for three summers ('69-'71)....was also on the University of Florida Men's Gymnastic Team. I sure miss my young man's body!

I'm back from driving like a maniac to make rush-hour shortcuts. Now I'm going to the sittin' chair to watch the Tigers. But I'll be keeping an eye on yooze guys.
